Brilliant documentary. I wish it was available on DVD. Such a gift to the world this family was and continues to be 🙏💓

Do not think cry for the Bronte sisters. Instead of letting this documentary serve as a reminder of their despair and desolation, remember that their lives were, and continue to be, inherently extraordinary. Three sisters who in spite of all the suffering and grief that followed them from a young age, as well as the myriad of socioeconomic hardships for women at the time, achieved their greatest dream in the end. All they ever wanted was fame and recognition for their talent as writers, and now their names are etched into the history of literature for the rest of eternity. I imagine they wouldn't know what to do with their happiness, if they knew just how much we've come to love their work today. And in their honor, I think it's only fair that we do feel that joy on their behalf. Thank you for uploading this.

I'm glad i watched this, it was wonderful. And supremely tragic, too. But what a great life they had - sometimes life needs to be measured by other than length.

I fell in love with their novels in my teens, in the early seventies....! What a sad and terrible loss of so much talent.....! Thanks for uploading.

Kudos to Samira Osmar and Juliet Barker. Their documentary brought to light the Brontë family relationships and the world in which they lived. As well as their struggles and sufferings. There are few things worse in this world for parents to go through than having to bury their child. In Patrick Brontë's case, all of them.

At the end ,during the beautiful music, when Patrick Malahide is speaking Arnold's poem about Charlotte , I'm crying my eyes out . Very moving program. Thank you

Great Documentary! Though tragic endings to their lives, the setting of their upbringing was exemplary! Imagination flourished with such natural surroundings! Majority of children today are deprived of developing such abilities being surrounded by man made artificial crud & technology, so sad

Thank you so much for putting up this series. I have seen it some time ago, and still think it is impressive, though controversial. Patrick Malahide´s acting really touches my heart. I have also read the discussions under every part with great pleasure, your knowledge on the subject is remarkable. I hope to go to Haworth one day. Cheers from the Czech rep.

I missed this when it was on the telly, but have felt the bittersweet of watching it on here. Their poor father having so many losses 😢😢😢 I thought I knew the Bronte's, having read their work, watched adaptations galore, and a couple of things about their lives, but I actually had no idea about her death 😢😢😢

Thank you so ever much for posting this series. Greater is my knowledge now of the 3 sisters and what misfortunes befell Branwell. For always Jane Eyre will continue to be my favourite literary piece. My hope is deep in the promises of God, upon the resurrection, I shall see the Brontes for an everlasting life upon the glorious new earth of blessed paradise! Soon I shall behold their faces and get to know each one well!

Thank you for posting this video, as well as the ones on other authors. I have enjoyed them and hope to enjoy more! Also, thank you for fostering discussion. It's refreshing to see full-fledged thoughts and differing opinions. Though the comments may confuse the issue of the sisters' true natures, where clarity fades, breadth of perspective is gained. Besides truth in history, motives and feelings is often blurred. :)

Thank you, Greek friend, for uploading this profound and moving story. Strange that it should come back to us from Greece. Do you know that the actual home of the Bronte family is now a museum and worth travelling all the way from Greece to see? It is full of the spirit of these wonderful women. If you google Bronte Parsonage You will soon find the website, I am sure. Thanks again. PJ.

right--parents are not suppose to outlast their children--he was devastated and must have felt like Job--his faith must have seen him through many dark moments--and good friends must have helped.

One thing that often goes unnoticed is how the men in Charlotte's life adored her. Starting from her unsung and much-maligned father who gave his daughters every freedom and encouragement to be themselves to Arthur Bell Nicholls who spent the rest of his life safeguarding her legacy. Charlotte rejected four proposals in her life, and Smith and Heger were extra :) Smith cherished her friendship and Hezer saw HER and her gift.

God, this has got to be one of the most depressing stories of all TIME!

Charlotte was examined by 2 doctors that said her condition was normal due to pregnancy and there was not reason to worry. They were not so narrow-minded as you consider them. It is just that medicine at that era wasn't advanced. Their being religious is irrelevant and we can not judge what we deserve or not since questions like our purpose in life and how the universe works is out of our reach.

I agree about Anne. In fact I believe it is quite unfair for all of them to be constantly compared to each other. They all wrote great novels and each reader has his/hers preferences.

Well water near the parsonage was contaminated by graves leaking lead and organic matter. With gravity, it flowed underground into the village. This tainted water contributed to Charlotte's death--and of many others in the village. Villagers, ironically, were being 'killed' by the dead. Water sanitation was understood poorly then (much less so than the ancient Romans). Poor Patrick--but he had the knowledge that his children were very talented & would not be forgotten. Very good special.

I wondered at the beginning how the father would care for 6 children after the loss of his wife. By the end, I felt he would gladly have those troubles instead of what he now faced.

If we are still talking about the Bronte sisters (which somehow I don't think so) no one of them ever said that there was no God. Generally I believe that people are entitled to change opinions through out their lives. Experiences make some people lose their faith and others to begin believing. You can not blame either. It is a personal choice and that is why it is none of our concern to say who deserves what, as we too don't have to apologize to anyone for what we believe or not.
