OM NAMAH SHIVAYA ! I can completely relate to her when she said the the mantra came out of nowhere and suddenly was in her heart and changed her life. I too had a very similar experience. I was born christian, and yet was a practicing buddhist for several years. My only real gripe with buddhism was the idea of not needing a God in one's life. That said, I was a practicing buddhist. So i happened along a doctumentary on Naga Babas and in it was a woman repeating the mantra Om Namah Shivaya. I didn't think anything of it at the time but i guess i retained it somewhere in me. So one day about 6 months later i was walking down a street in new york on my way to get my daughter from school and found myself repeating over and over the mantra. When i realized what i was doing the joy within my heart overflowed and tears ran down my face. I began laughing the most joyful laugh i have ever had. And i couldn't believe what was happening to me. How i felt at that moment. Since that time i have done enormous amounts of research on Sanatana Dharma. I have "personally" pledged my devotee-ship to Lord Shiva. I read, meditate and chant the mantra frequently. The only thing i currently lack is a true Guru to help me along. Hard to find in NYC I know. But unfortunately i can't go to india at the moment. I love this girls story. Wish i could get in touch with her for some advice and perhaps instruction from her Guru.
