GA Tech seems to be opposite. Early Action 1 only allows GA residents apply. Show care for their own residents.

Very difficult for Illinois students to get accepted to U of I. Most would rather attend Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Alabama, etc anyway.

Of course, out of state tuition >> instate tuition. Money grab. However, no state taxes where I live in FL. So...

I have heard that there are a lot of the students at University of Maryland are from New Jersey; I also heard that there is a shortage of four year colleges in New Jersey that forces their students to attend college out of state.

Maryland resident here. I have heard this anecdotally and have seen my kids’ classmates with 4.0 GPAs in IB Diploma and AP classes get rejected. That said, both of my kids were admitted to UMD and both got into the honors program. I don’t really know if it’s actually true - I think some of those strong on paper in state applicants just don’t stand out within the context of their high schools and may have put together weaker applications.

My kid got in to a Cal State school with a 3.0 GPA while I see on TikTok the same school rejecting in-state kids with 3.8 and 3.9 GPA's. We will be paying full price for his education which is still a good deal compared to other places.

Really great video. We are quite insulted - as Maryland residents- that our daughter wasn’t admitted to UMD despite being admitted to UW-Madison, UM-Twin Cities, and similar high-quality institutions. Time to ditch Maryland!

76% of UMd students are Maryland residents.
@danfromqueens6599 ай бұрын
That 76% is more than UVa (65%) and U Mich(52%).

A concerning point is that Maryland does not have legislation to promote any of its instate residents like Texas and North Carolina. UT Austin (91.9%), UNC (82%)

UMd is really good university but UMd is not nationally popular as UMich and UVA. I guess UMd wants to get more national recognition by accepting more out of state students. SUNY Binghamton, a competitive school with less than 40% acceptance rate (I am NY Resident and my son graduated) which has strong academic requirement/SAT score for an admission in par/similar to UMd and maybe better than Rutgers, Ohio State, Illinois, however Out of State admission is less than 10% because the School is not popular in national level.
