thank you so much for the great video again. This is the first time someone has shown how to actually do a fresh water dip...love your channel so much educational..

Great video Cam, lots of useful information in it. One tip I can offer is to perform the bath in a dark or black bucket. It makes it much easier to discern the flukes once they become opaque as you mentioned or when they unhook from the host.
@GalleryAquaticaTV5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I’ve never tried a black bucket, I just assumed black would be harder to see the flukes. I’ll give it a try next time I do a FW bath. Cheers. Cam

I didn't know it was necessary. I've always heard it has no affect on the fish since it's just a short period of time.

I just followed your directions to a tee for the same species of Trigger. So far he is pouting under a rock now but, I have a bunch of flukes in a bucket that are no longer on him so hopefully he will be ok.

It’s definitely standard for triggers to pout in this scenario so I expect he’ll be ok. Cam

Great video. Thanks. How do you approach ich?
@GalleryAquaticaTV6 жыл бұрын
When it comes to ich I’m all about good UV sterilisation. If you ensure your UV steriliser is rated to treat whitespot, and you’re careful to quarantine fish prior to adding them to your tank, you can be confident that ich and other protozoan infections won’t be a problem. The mistake that most people make is that they use undersized UV sterilisers. I never recommend UV sterilisers that don’t give ratings in milliwatts per cubic centimetres. Cam

Very helpful! Thank you 😊 Question though, I have a blue spotted puffer and I can’t use a net for him, but I can’t use a cup either because then that would pick up some of the saltwater from tank, any suggestions? 🤔

Hey idk if you know you can get the Hannah pH red instrument to check the pH in digital format it's so convenient. I also have salinity tester and they're great! Every once in awhile I clean it and calibrate them with special sachets that you can buy on Amazon.

We didn’t have the Hanna pH when we filmed the video but we do now. I agree it’s very good. Cam

Hi Thanks for the video. I also seems to have a fluke problem in my DT. Due to the the fish being hard to catch due to the aquascape I decided to catch the ones I could and do Fresh water dips and dose Prazipro for the remaining fish. I did two treatments 5 days apart but still see fish with flukes. Any suggestion on further treatments?
@mexicanamerican212 жыл бұрын
I dipped my mocha vincis for the full 5 with air rated water and a small buffer, the last 13 seconds were extremely painful. My smallest almost didn’t come out of shock. After they became unpaired, they lost their spunk, and became very shy. I kept the lights off all day. Just a terrible day even tho I had to re pair them in a small breeding tank, they lost that little bond I feel. Maybe they’ll snap out of it. But the female became more aggressive. They were just babies, now they act like grown ups

Great video Is there any value to treating ich with a freshwater dip as an emergency just to give your fish a chance at pulling through?
@GalleryAquaticaTV Жыл бұрын
In most cases no. Freshwater dips reduce the number of the infective stage, but don’t do anything for cysts (ie spots). I’d argue you’re stressing the fish more than it’s worth in parasite reduction. Cam
@Day_Paints3 жыл бұрын
I am very scared to do this on my juvenile gem tang.
@fishstix19884 жыл бұрын
why would you choose a freshwater bath instead of treating with copper or prazipro?

Would you recommend the freshwater bath for a sailfin tank that has black spots all over it's body?
@GalleryAquaticaTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes, black marks can definitely be an indicator for flukes. As with any fish be very careful as you bath it, however it’s fair to say Sailfins typically tolerate freshwater baths well. Cam

On the topic of fish, do you guys know of good fish databases with pictures? I've bought either a wrasse or an anthias. Weird thing is it's silver and tan colored, and I can for the life of me not find this guy/gal anywhere...

API test kits I wouldn’t recommend at all. The expiration is never correct and overall it’s just not accurate. Use a ph probe (needs to be replaced every 6-12 month) or a ph digital pen
@GalleryAquaticaTV5 жыл бұрын
Some of the API kits can have limited precision which doesn’t suit some reefers, however the high range ph test kit is quite good. Precision is not accuracy, and when used properly the API is very accurate. A lot of people write off API because they don’t understand the limitations of the different tests, but in this circumstance it’s perfect. Cam
@Collins8115 жыл бұрын
Stuff like pH and nitrate I have no problem recommending API. When it comes to KH, CA, PO4 and some others I would go with either red sea/salifert or hanna

Why you don’t take the water from the same tank?

The idea is that we are dipping saltwater fish in freshwater to remove parasites. It wouldn’t work if the water wasn’t a different salinity. Cam
