Great conversation. I can't help but notice that no one is talking about how the community dragged Dave Chapell's "transfriend" and her subsequent death. While I didn't see his show the same way you both did I respect your right to feel how you feel about it. I simply think that same energy of safety should be expressed towards those in the community that spew hate amongst their very own. Just as we as black people need to demand change in our communities to prevent black on black crime while also addressing the threat we face from the very officers that are charged with our safety. We need to have complete conversations.

Muchas gracias for sharing along with guest Hope talking more about a very important subject, breaking down why so much of our society is still in the dark ages of mob mentality regarding sharing common decency and empathy for our trans sisters and brothers. Goodness and damn, we still have have knee jerk behavior, desperation, and moral/spiritual apathy spewing viciously at living beings who are obviously needing our collective support and love to survive. These conversations are about humans, and to think there are so many other living beings, the Animal species, who are still waiting for their homes and safe spaces to explore to not be systematically terrorized and destroyed. Let alone to be born and raised in the hell like death camps we call slaughterhouses. Whew!, I am not much impressed by the human species though I am thankful for the efforts these two women show here today.

This was a good and necessary conversation. Like you said, a lot of times we just regurgitate what we hear without putting any thought to it or doing any of our own research. I also appreciate hearing Hope's perspective and getting a better understanding directly from someone in the community so we can learn how to educate ourselves and be better allies.

I am glad you did this. The comment section last week had me shaking my head at the way black people still dismiss black trans people and their struggle. Their struggle IS our struggle. Hope Giselle was soooo on pointe when she was talking about the stone wall gays. Dave Chappelle misses the time when gays were closeted and ashamed (I mean there is still work to do there but it used to be worse).

I knew your comments were going to be hot garbage! I've told people a million times that transphobic doesn't necessarily mean being scared, but having an irrational aversion or dislike. I didn't watch Dave Chappelle's special but he isn't saying anything he hasn't said before, and it doesn't appeal to me.
@tonahmilton34013 жыл бұрын
Haven't watched Dave's show, but I'm getting the gist from several comments, memes & so forth. I'm guessing we all kind of know that challenging anyone "big" is a possible free ticket to a loud & long shit show. The beauty of it is when & if new understanding presents itself & mean for the individuals hashing this out... us. commenters... watchers.. thinkers... So keep presenting! There are gains to be had. I struggle to understand what is so hard to get about not being considered, protected, presented (which leads to a host of negative precedence, laws, violation & discard). Every group non white male (in the US anyway) is experiencing this on some level. Even if just fundamentally, how can we not know how this works? Anywho... Keep teaching me... I for 1 could learn a plenty ;)

I understand Lynae’s original response to The Closer. I recognize the struggle of the LGBTQ community. I guess Dave’s comedy has always been reckless, and I’ve always wondered what was actually being laughed at by his diverse audience. How often were the larger points being overlooked amid the laughs? It was just cool earlier because it was just dealing with our ish, and anyone black can do whatever they want/need to do with our ish to earn a living.

The main issue is this: we need to understand there is a difference between social justice and being offended. Social justice had nothing to do with canceling anyone if differing opinions. Social justice is about changing the system. Chick-fil-A gave a clear stance against same Sex marriage. Many canceled them yet they’ve become much more popular. Why? It’s a private corporation. But even they have to abide by federal law. Take the energy to your local and federal government and organize. Otherwise this will just be remembered as a shit show where people are causing a ruckus for what they don’t agree on and being in fear. I get you’re in fear for your lives yet the murder of a Black trans women is still NOT considered a hate crime. Be outraged! Be mad! Just take the energy and use it to change the system. Trying to change people’s minds without changing the system is hogwash. Black people have had to learn this lesson for themselves.
@joshuaboakyeansah3 жыл бұрын
Its sad that there was so much hate in the comments. I may not have agreed with everything she said in the video, but she was still making important points. I think the people in the comments just thought she was trying to cancel Chappelle like others were trying to without watching the whole video.
@LynaeVaneex3 жыл бұрын
Yea girl both sides of cancel culture (the people supporting it and the people defending the perpetrators) are dumb to me. People can make mistakes they just need to say sorry when they do. It’s the only way we’ll see a world where these mistakes happen less and less, not because of fear of being cancelled, but because the harmful rhetoric behind it is dying.

You should watch the interview on the breakfast club about the incident , otherwise da baby would have been arrested. It amazing a black man was able to access the protection of laws that give him the right to bear arms and to “stand his ground” but if there wasn’t a weapon in the young man or surveillance to prove it I assure you da baby would have been imprisoned in this United States of America.

Comedians Joke! I think you misunderstood the whole Stonewall section of the special. Lighten up!!!
@wokeaf12423 жыл бұрын
There is a problem with protected groups. When Chapelle pointed out that Da Baby murdered someone (or when Chris Brown attacks another woman) we do not hear from these groups because he murdered a black man - and Chapelle's humor is always aimed at his on people (I'm Rick James "B" - who was he saying that too?) but when Da Baby said something homophobic then everyone got mad. However, the flaw in Chapelle and all his defender's logic is it is black LGBTQ and Trans who get attacked, Trans women mainly by black men. They don't attack white LGBTQ organizations, or NOW. They attack black LGBTQ and Trans. Who was your stalker stalking? A white woman? Nope. When we accept the easy labeling for our women by Hip Hop artists and comedians, labeling that is dehumanizing, that is aimed at quantifying male ownership, and then we have this Dead Sea Scroll list of missing and assaulted or abuse black women but no one cares, right? According to Hip Hop and black comedians, our women are just "tricks" or "ratchet" or "Bs" so if you attack them or they go missing, or we have a serial killer murdering them, what's the problem? Remember Sandra Black? Remember how many so-called "brothers" (mostly Hotep a-holes) did podcasts and videos saying "if she hadn't opened her mouth. . ." as if defending your rights as a black woman is a crime worth murder. This video is100% right and I hope you got that psychopath that stalked you taken care of.
@LynaeVaneex3 жыл бұрын
I think maybe you just don’t hear from these groups, because we definitely talk about it. And both times da baby murdered someone it was in self defense from people who pulled weapons on him. We talked about that in the video, but the second half of this comment💯

Question: Does gender matter? Muhammad Ali: The Cassius Clay context was not missed by folks 40yrs and older. How does a community nominate a wht trans male->female "Women Of The Year"? The gender reassignment was only a year old. But Cassius Clay could not be Muhammad Ali with the same acceptance. I listen to all sides, no matter how uncomfortable I may feel about the subject matter. Your platform is phenomenal and greatly appreciated, within its own right. But erry-body's not going to enjoy all of your rhetoric and slick sass. DC's stand up on Netflix, and your video commenting about 'scholars speculations' of Mr. Malcolm Little sexual preferences before becoming Malcolm X wasn't news. But nor were either uncomfortable. People are a long ways from being perfect. Racism is here to stay. And no matter how much we beg other marginalized groups and/or cultures to "Not Punch Down On" each other (or anyone), we can't be expected to walk on eggshells just bc someone's feelings got hurt. Cancel Culture has backfired in many ways. I believe Dave Chappell was merely suggesting we check that too. Not just comedy.
