In the Crib: Air Travel, How to Get your Reborn Baby Doll Through TSA & What to Expect!

I've taken Reborn Baby Dolls with me on planes but first there's going through airport security screening. Learn how to do it easily and fast for everyone. You need to know what to expect so you know what will happened. The chemical test will not harm Reborns, it is a dry test strip. Reborns are life-like baby "DOLLS" not real babies as it's never good to put real babies through the air port x-ray machine!

Thanks Katie, yes one female TSA agent was even commenting on how she can tell the differences in painting. So that was refreshing that they have seen more that one coming through. Over time I hope that everyone will realize what they are. Glad you like the tips, I actually wanted to video at security while doing the tray thing but it was just too difficult to go at the speed that they want you to go.

Yeah, the same happened to me in Dallas Texas airport. Horrible TSA agent tossed my expensive vacuum sealed sausages I got in Spain and other stuff. The guy next to me had a ninja sword ninja metal stars and it was ok. Weapons were fine, but my sausages were more dangerous I guess.

I took my reborn toddler to Florida last summer and some times I got to carry him with Me through the scanner and some times they didn't, if you want to carry your baby make it look real but make sure it doesn't have a wet diaper, they will try to open the diaper.

I was in the salt lake airport a year ago and one of the TSA agents was very rude yelling at people to put their stuff in bins. I didn’t like that agent at all and complained about her treatment to her face. Another passenger on the line complained about her bad temper too. I guess some TSA agent think people will respect them more if they are loud and aggressive. I really dread traveling cause I never know when I am going to run into one of these jerk TSA agents. When they are nice is such a relief.

Thanks so glad you think that it will be helpful, it's comforting to know that the TSA try to be careful once you tell them how fragile Reborns are, with exception of that TSA agent in Denver. But have not run into that issue again. Since then they have been very nice do their job and send you onto the gate, they will even help you find the monitor to find your gate number and answer any questions. I was very surprised.

I understand it's scary to fly on a plane. I found if I think about everyone else doing their job to make sure everyone is safe has helped. I sit on the aisle so I can get out easier and not see out the window. Sit over the wings for a smoother flight but not at the exit door. The TSA is getting use to seeing these reborn dolls going through and they are pretty nice about it. Have your baby really easy to take out of the bag to place in the tray to be scanned a light blanket to protect against the tray and to lightly block view from others yet can be seen for the agents and all should go pretty easily. Have a wonderful time in Florida.

No need to be scared, TSA is getting used to seeing Reborns, Just lay Alice in the tray to be scanned. Look at her through the x-ray machine. Then they have you go with her to another area. Then they will do a dry chemical test with a dry piece of paper read the results from the test and send you on your way. Don't forget to smile. They won't harm her. Just anything unusual they are careful to scan. A female agent may scoop up Alice to share with the other TSA agents. Then return her to you. It will be fine.

The TSA is becoming more accustom to seeing reborns on their screen. They will always do the chemical test, then you are on your way. It is mixed experiences more positive then negative. Me however, getting though, was another story I'll share, I learned more about how the full body scanner works.

Oh yes, I believe this TSA agent had a case of narcissistic behavior, she was all important and not at all human. Yes, prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. The pre-check went unbelievably super easy at another airport. They have special treatment for those who are handicap at Pittsburgh, I was so very impressed with that airport.

I sometimes think TSA treatment is correlated to how busy or slow the airport is. It's hard to say. My home airport is the busiest airport in the world (trivia question lol!), so I figured if I got any grief, it might happen there lol! Then again, there's the whole southern hospitality thing, and it's pretty true in most circumstances 😉

There's being polite and doing their job but they also have to respect people's expensive property as they aren't the ones that have spent out the money on the doll or know how to care for it . They shouldn't be allowed to just manhandle the dolls just because they are not real as that's disrespectful to that persons item

I'm about to travel with my reborn doll, I'm so nervous about doing it and I've never done it before. I'm relatively new to the reborn doll world. I have some other dolls I'm going to travel with as well, but while they'll be complete, they will be disassembled and in my checked luggage. But I will have a complete doll that will travel with me on the plane. I'm thinking that she'll need to go through security without any clothes, so they don't have to do that part. She also has a magnet in her head for pacifiers as well as a heartbeat button inside of her cloth body and I'm worried about if these will cause problems or not.

The TSA is getting used to seeing Reborn/Silicone dolls come through. They just scan the doll, they are very nice since this video was made. They don't need to know why you have the doll. The flight attendant does need to know if you are holding a doll and not a real baby for their passenger count, just let them know when they come by to do their checks that it's a doll.

It's this paper tape they wipe it on the reborn all over. Then they put the tape into a machine, it reads it, takes seconds, then you are allowed to gather your reborn and go onto your gate.

Great tips, thankyou! Was the TSA agent in Denver rough with your dolls? Looked like she was the way the tray was there on the floor. Did you even have the chance to say that the doll is considered art and needs to be handled gently? Wonder what would have if they damaged the doll, while "doing" their job and telling someone to "be quiet"?? That would have been very hard for me to keep my mouth shut, I guess I tend to challenge authority at times if I feel they are abusing their positions, course still I would be the one to probably go to jail!! lol

Yes, I felt as though she was power hungry. I believe she didn't get enough dolly time in on her childhood, she didn't seem to know how to hold them. She was rough, as she turned them over to test them while pulling their clothes away from the fabric body. But I knew that it would be over soon and I could get my Reborns back. The chemical test is a dry test, so I knew that wouldn't harm them. I had seen Jeff Dunams act, and he talked about what happened to his ventriloquist dummies going through TSA, so I knew anything strange, specifically anything with a face causes them to go into high alert to test it.

Don't worry then you'll just carry him. TSA have seen Reborns come through before. It just makes it easier for them not being in a bag then they don't have to take it out. Just place him gently in the tray covered up. They will do their chemical test if they are concerned. Takes just a minute and doesn't hurt the Reborn at all. Enjoy your trip.

TSA is getting use to seeing these Reborns coming through. They will scan and do chemical tape test on the Reborn. I have seen where they have taken a Reborn apart by cutting the zip ties to have a look inside. That didn't happen to me, just I'd take some extra zip ties and have them in the luggage just in case, don't have the extra zip ties in your carry on, that would make them nervous. I've traveled to Germany and they just looked and everything was fine, so you should be okay.

I’m traveling with my reborn to the Kansas Doll Show. This is really helpful. I’m so worried even though I shouldn’t be. I’m just wondering what to do with her fake cochlear implants I made for her. They are fragile and I don’t want to have them break so I don’t want to put them in my checked bag. I think I’ll have them on me so if they think they are bomb parts or something I can explain. No, they can see inside the Reborn doll pretty clearly with the scanners. International travel, is requiring taking the Reborns apart to actually examine the insides. Travels need to bring extra zip ties to put Reborn back together.

I have a baby bottle full of fake milk (laundry detergent) but I’m not sure if I will be able to put it in my checked baggage. I will have to put it in there if I can take it because it is over 100ml but I don’t know whether laundry detergent will be allowed to fly at all

Does it help if you undress them a little bit when you place them in the bin? Does the chemicals stain or leave a residual on the baby? I took my doll and nothing was said or done like you are describing. It may not have looked as real as yours or only had poly-fill instead of glass beads. Makes me really nervous to think of taking mine on a plane. especially my silicone.

Security techs can calibrate an ETD, or "sniffer," to detect an array of gaseous organic compounds, including drugs, but the TSA maintains they check only for traces of explosive compounds. These compounds can include: NG (nitroglycerin) ANFO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil)

Yes, you could carry your Reborn. Let the flight attendant know that it is a doll and not a real baby, as they do a count of people on the plane for their records.

I do not have experience with bringing a full silicone baby doll through TSA. Guess you could have with you wipes after the testing has been done to reassure there would not be any of the chemical left on the silicone.
