This book is about ascending the heights of virtue and walking the arduous road of integrity, both of which have been forsaken by much of our culture. It is about being bold when others are not. It extols the challenge that we need to embrace the principles scorned by others but blessed by God. It was written out of core conviction born out of spending the bulk of my day sitting on the front row of a deteriorating culture and feeling utterly remiss in not speaking something into the deterioration.
And while this book is written to confront a sinful and decadent culture, such a singular orientation would be far too short-sighted. In many ways, the need to confront our culture is eclipsed by a compelling sense that we are much more than what we’ve become. What we see is not who we are. What we’ve done is not what we’re capable of. Rather, it is who we have chosen to be and what we have chosen to do. And our choices are saddening.
This book is not about what we’ve become and what we have done, although it certainly confronts such choices. Rather, it’s about who we can become and the good that we can do. It’s about courageous living based on ethical choices that elevate us to places we thought untouchable. It’s about reversing the descending fall of our lives by intentionally ascending the state of our souls. It embodies a deep hope and a relentless conviction that the summit is ours for the taking, and the road is in fact the very journey that we were born for. It is about igniting of the fullness of our humanity instead of feeding slop to our darker side. It is about a transformation that likely few will make. But it only takes a few to change many.
I am grateful for unexpected phone calls and for a God who lavishes His grace upon us even when we’re looking elsewhere. And I am thankful that conviction is strong enough to propel us even when passion has fallen to the fatigue involved in saving a culture. May the words penned, and the concepts shared transform you in ways either large or small. And should they achieve that rather formidable task, the energy expended will have been more than worth it.
