Minnesota Rancher. I always say 'pretty is, as pretty does.'. Watching your videos and hearing the knowledge and experience that is so evident, and then seeing the stripped down, basic things you have and use, makes my point. Beautiful!

Borax has another plus to it, it is a bug killer. Kills fur moths and dermestid beetles. To fully bug proof you would need to have it fluffed through all the fur too. BTW I learned fur handling a few years before I started trapping. This trapper showed me, but wouldn't teach me the actual trapping, though I wasn't really interested at that time. I was just into furs.
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu153125 күн бұрын
You're absolutely right Canis Latrans and I meant to mention that and plumb forgot. Thank you. 7 dust works wonders for the bugs too. Thank you for watching
@timothy598824 күн бұрын
Great tips Dale. How do you apply the borax? Just wipe it on with a rag? Also.....I saw a couple guys on other channels saying they rub them down with mineral spirits when they take them off the forms......I've also had people say to never use mineral spirits..I'd be interested to hear your take on that..Merry Christmas and as always..I appreciate the tips..always learning 👍
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu153124 күн бұрын
Timothy we just dump a box or 2 of it in a tote and just roll the hide around in it until it's covered in it. There's a difference between mineral spirits and mineral oil. Mineral oil will give the fur a sheen and make it brighter. Mineral spirits will pull the oil out of it. I don't recommend using mineral spirits on the fur. Merry Christmas to y'all too. Thank you for watching

There's usually a bright shiny pebble on the beach somewhere Mike. For a few years it was coyote. After that it's been beaver. It may not all always be good, but there's always something that's good.

How many fur a year bo you get on a average I have a uncle who gets truckloads of all different kinds of fur when the prices were good but God rest his soul I have spent many of many hours helping my uncle's skin
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu153126 күн бұрын
It varies Dodie. I used to catch between 800-1,000 coon a year , but now with prices like they are I don't. I concentrate more on the southern fur now because I get paid to trap them.
