It's been a very dry fall and winter here. My spring is still going but not like in years past. We definitely need moisture to get our spring recharged. It's amazing how powerful frozen water is ! Hope you have a great day.

It is crazy how much of an impact weather can have. We finally have moisture here!

That tapered thread was working against you. We had two water holes dry up this summer and a stock pond was down to 2-2.5 feet before the last couple weeks when now the stock pond is full and the other two water holes are holding water again. We have a wet weather creek that hasn't had water flowing for about a year but its trying to flow again. North Giles county TN. We had our well tested by a lab after we drilled it but we use home test kits and ph. strips every spring since then. Your water is likely clean. Back when I was fishing the Cumberland river from 109 bridge up to Gainsboro area, that water was the cleanest water around. There was never any consumption limits posted for those waters. That's been twenty years plus. I use to hunt up and down the river and I enjoyed the crappie, sauger and walleye fishing. Have a good one Micah.

Wow! You have fished the same waters I’ve fished! I’ve been fishing there roughly 25 years!

At my first job after high school in the 80’s, we use to cash our check at a bar/restaurant and they had a sign that said “If you don’t have time to do it right the first time, where are you gonna fine time to do it again.” 40+ years later, I still try to live by that rule. But as you know, sometimes we don’t. 😁

With me, often times a job that should take 20 minutes takes all day. I'm not a fan of galvanized fittings either. Some of the old water systems around here had galvanized because they were cheap. Everytime i had to change one out, i use brass. A lot more money but at least they will last. Have a good day my friend.
@McGieHomesteadAdventuresКүн бұрын
Thanks so much! I’ll be using brass or stainless I hope!

I'm glad to see you were able to get it fixed ! Did you guys get ice or snow from this past storm ? Alex went out and spread his food plot seed right before the snow so we will see how his frost seeding does in a few months. Thanks for sharing and have a great day !

@@AaricHaleIm thinking of trying some frost seeding myself. I’m going to try frost seeding right on top of the snow. They tell me that’s what they do up north.
@duncand514821 сағат бұрын
Have you ever done it before? It makes perfect sense. I’m thinking when the snow melts, and the ground thaws, the seed will sink into that top layer of mud. I need to overseed my pecan orchard where I grow ladino clover for barrel silage. With the dry weather, the crabgrass smothered a good bit out. Then the fall was so dry, I couldn’t get any planted.
@McGieHomesteadAdventures21 сағат бұрын
@ I’ve never actually done it in this big frost we have now but it frost heavy afterwards last year on the hillside.
@duncand514820 сағат бұрын
@ I’m going to try it. If I can get one cutting, it’s enough ground to make 9-10 barrels. Then if weather permits I can reseed the whole thing in the fall properly. Drought is hard on ladino clover. It probably didn’t help that I mowed the tar out of it just before the dry weather hit trying to get those last few barrels of silage. 🤣

Good video McGie, regards the water testing you might go ahead and do it, was a Coldwater creek that fed water for the folks that lived in the St. Louis area. Creek area was used as a dumping ground for radio active waste from the Manhattan project back in the WWII days, folks have had and still have severe medical problems with the aftermath. And here you live where the TVA was a major part of the project.

I'm a fan and always interested in your ability to repair/engineer solutions. However, as great as the ram-pump is, from now until spring, I believe you'll have to almost camp out there with all the freezes coming. I don't know how, but perhaps, with your friend who you got the design and pump from, you might be able to come up with an upgrade that would allow for freezing and/or self-cut off/de-connect during a sudden freeze?

So black pipe corrodes also but galvanized pipe corrodes less cause on the zinc coating. Probably better to run it in copper but you would need to be pretty wealthy to buy that at a size you probably need. In the days before they used copper pipes as drain pipes. Didn't see many homes that must have been in wealthy areas? Blue is for water yellow is for gas red didn't know they had that one have to look that one up.
