Located on St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands, the St. George Village Botanical Garden is a 16- acre garden situated among the buildings and ruins of an 18th and 19th-century sugar cane plantation. This site overlaps an Amerindian settlement which dates back to c.100 A.D.
The Garden’s botanical collections feature over 1,000 varieties of plants that demonstrate the horticultural potential for the U.S. Virgin Islands and emphasize the cultural and historical value of plants as a source of food, medicine, fiber, color dyes, and building material in the Caribbean.

I have one in my backyard in Florida, it was there when we bought the house a few years ago and we thought it was a unique tree which shaded the screened patio on the house. We soon learned the roots can be destructive and can travel well over 100 feet (tree is over 60 feet tall), in all directions and branches grow inches a month especially in summer. This has to be the inspiration for Audrey in Little House of Horrors.

I have one of the Burgundy type in my backyard and is huuuge (not like that yet but almost 10m. I really wanna have all the varieties planted on the ground for them tô grow bigger! Also YES, only hearing you talk about why bugs don't attack the plant I finally understood why it's so "clean" and beautiful! I realized that the freaking slugs don't bite the tree unlike every other plant on my yard! A very good vídeo, contrats!

I live in palm springs california, which is zone 9b. its get really hot and dry; although i've see several ficus elastica trees that are at least 30-40 feet tall. Im trying to alclimate mine from a house plant to a outdoor tree. There is very few video about growing ficus elastica outdoors.

Good post. I have a ficus elastica burgundy found in the dump. I cut it down to a stump every few years so it doesn't get blown down from hurricanes.

Thank you! Wanted to learn about my ficus elastica burgundia's origins...so I could better understand it and hence care for it well. I think that tree is maybe prominent in Mogley's home in Disney's "Jungle Book"...it looks very familiar!! 🐅🐅🐒🐒🌴

The woman at my local plant retailer recommended cactus potting soil, since it has good drainage, but I saw mix recommended on internet of peat, perlite, and pine? bark. Just repotted mine yesterday from it's nursery plastic pot - it seems happy. I used the cactus mix.
