You are right. Elvis never forgot where he came from. His humbleness and religious convictions often caused him to ask of himself why me? Why was he touched to have everything that was bestowed to him? Since you are watching his movies, put on He Touched Me, The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley on DVD. You will get a whole other side to him.

Hi Dani..... Thank you so much for your reaction to this Elvis song. It is so very powerful. I am a 64 yr. old caucasian female and I've unexpectedly experienced something watching reactors react to this song. I will preface by saying that I watch probably 8 or 9 reactors of which you are the only one not of color. The knowledge that I have gained by watching all of these reactions has gone deeper than just hearing the words. I have learned so much. I remember one reactor just breaking down into tears during this song. He paused the song and said that the song had woken up his memories of the ghetto and how he grew up. He said he specifically remembered the second time he was shot and that in that initial moment, he thought he was going to die. At that point as I watched him react my head is saying, "second time?". I knew at that moment that I knew nothing about what life was like in the ghetto. I've read things in the history books in school, I've watched documentary movies and regular movies about the ghetto, but I never able to see the damage done to the human spirit when they have lived in the ghetto. Of course, I know that the ghetto must have some bright spots also but with the reactors that I watch, I know they have been damaged too and that makes me so very sad. Take care and be well. Peace.

Dani, these Elvis reaction videos that you are doing are simply wonderful. Please keep them coming. A wee bit of background to this performance of "In The Ghetto" 'In The Ghetto' was a song which was completely out of the 'Elvis comfort zone' in that it was a protest song dealing with social injustice and into an area Elvis would not normally venture. In spite of these reservations, Elvis recorded it on 20 January 1969 in American Sound Studios and it was a worldwide hit and remains one of his most critically acclaimed recordings. It was included in the Elvis live show from the first Vegas show on 31 July 1969, and would be sung at virtually every show for the next year, which incorporated the six shows at the Houston Astrodome and the Jan/Feb 70 Vegas engagement. It would only be performed a further six times thereafter, this solo appearance during August 70, at five shows during the September 70 tour and finally in Vegas at the midnight show on 19 February 1971. When the Lost Performances was released on home video in 1992, we all sat with mouths wide open at what we were seeing. Here in front of us, salvaged from an MGM vault contained within a disused salt line in Kansas, and found during a routine inspection in 1986, was footage from TWII and On Tour that many suspected, but never knew for certain, existed. As the DVD sets 'TTWII - The Complete Works' and 'On Tour - behind the scenes' proved, it was only the tip of the iceberg. The highlight of these new performances was regarded by many as being the back to back renditions of 'Don't Cry Daddy' and 'In The Ghetto' from the dinner show on 13 August and seamlessly fused together almost as one. This is the performance that you have reacted too in this video - thanks again Dani.

Hy Dani, great to see you and our Elvis on this " Thank you, thank you very much Thursday" again! Although every song of Elvis is a special song, this is a very special song for me! A few of my YT friends know the story and i guess they now think: omg not again! 😂 But i'll tell it anyway! I already was a fan when i heard "In The Ghetto " on the radio for the first time. But at that time i didn't understand the language yet. A few years later i did and i was able to translate the lyrics into german. I wrote it word for word on a piece of paper. After reading it a few times i started to cry and couldn't stop for hours. Although i knew about the problems, this song made it more clear and i saw this young man dying with the gun in his hand. And till today nothing has changed. The problems haven't changed and my way of listening to this song. In this case i like the studio version better than the live version. It has a 'deeper' atmosphere and he sings it a bit slower. In my ears it fits better to the whole topic. Btw i still have the piece of paper today.

Hi Dani New to your channel , I'm 61 years old and Elvis got it back then and you being a young lady today you totally get it , He was born into poverty living close to black people they all struggled but as you said he was blessed with opportunities shortly after high school he had to take a lot of bumps and bruises from his own race in the segregated south, he was accused as a white man of singing and performing black people style of music , He was attacked by churches, schools, radio and TV stations, journalist ,law enforcement stating he was corrupting the white youth but he had God , a fan base that gave him the courage to weather his storm and he open a gate that allowed black people to flood through and show case their talents that had been muted for to long and even though he made it and shared so much of his wealth to unfortunate ones he never forgot where he came from, his heart and mind was still on the ones who was less fortunate with little to no opportunities a place of dire circumstances, depression and anger it doesn't take much for some to become desperate which lead to a bad and sad ending ,He said to Nancy Sinatra the night Lisa was born he was happy to be a new dad but it saddens him to know their are so many children who are and will be born without her opportunities and privilege. TYFS be safe!!

I read a comment once that said Whitney Houston's Mother Cissy Houston was one of Elvis' back-up Singers so I Googled her & was massively surprised by Cissy Houston's Discography! I coped it so here is her background story: Emily "Cissy" Houston, (born September 30, 1933), Is an American Soul and Gospel Singer. After a successful career singing backup for such artists as Elvis Presley, Roy Hamilton, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. Houston embarked on a solo career, winning two Grammy Awards for her work. Houston is the mother of singer Whitney Houston, grandmother of Bobbi Kristina Brown, aunt of singers Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick, and a cousin of opera singer Leontyne Price. A better introduction to her - though we still really hope you will react to “ghost love score” live at Wacken by Nightwish may be her duet doing “Phantom of the opera“. So good also! Both are quite worthy of reactions but Phantom is more purely her voice, less rock band. Both you will enjoy hearing and reacting to. Elvis picked some great tunes from Mac Davis when all he was being presented with were crap songs. Keep up the great work! In the late sixties, Davis's songwriting talent paid off: he wrote several hits for Elvis Presley, including "In the Ghetto," "Memories," and "Don't Cry Daddy." His 1968 breakout smash for Presley, "A Little Less Conversation," became popular again after appearing in the 2001 film Ocean's 11.

Here is my opinion and let me emphasize opinion because other viewers went crazy for giving my interpretation of a song in one of your previous videos. I think that Elvis showed lots of character for singing this song. It’s apparent the majority in this Las Vegas audience were not from a ghetto background. Additionally, it’s highly likely many affluent people could afford to be in that audience and and likely had disposable money to gamble with in that if not another casino. That being said, it is of my OPINION that Elvis believes that it was a song that needed to be sung, no matter what the circumstances or how it would be received. This tells me a lot about his character That is my humble opinion and no he did not call and tell me. If Dani can give her interpretation, so can I. Peace Out.

You are absolutly right, but don't forget that this song was already a huge hit in 1969. So he was singing one of his greatest hits after his 'hollywood time' here. As far as i know he was singing it only in the 1970th season in Vegas, but im not sure about that. But apart from that, he actually didn't have to sing this song at all! I totally agree with your opinion! Btw. we all are here to tell our opinions as well as Dani does! People often forget about that or have problems with other people's opinion. I know that problem, just had a hard discussion about that with a nice 'gentleman'. But that's the reason we are all here, to find out what people are thinking, to hear their opinions about different topic a.s.o. But i made the experience that especially when it comes to Elvis it's very difficult. I'm a huge fan since 40 years, but im not a 'blind' fan. He wasn't a saint and had and made mistakes, but some fans don't want to hear about that or don't (want) believe it. For me your point of view was very interesting! Peace out!

Yes hello Sunday November XXII 20/20 3 22 p.m. I just listened to a few more your songs again a game today and I realized the number that I clicked what the thumbs up was 666 where he was singing in the black suit in 68 I probably was about 12 years old then that's why I left about 30 minutes from the Toronto City Hall and Maple Leaf Gardens Marnie played good anyhow airplane that song Memories sometimes it's hard to look at him and look at you at the same time and get the reactions so anyhow that's another story but I have another story I know you have parents do not know how old you are I'm guessing you're over 14 and yes I think you know what I'm getting at if you were 14 do you think he would marry Elvis Presley or do you think your parents would allow you to marry Elvis Presley just a thought just a small guess I'm thinking you're around 20 give or take yeah like I say I wonder if your parents would let you marry Elvis Presley and if it did Mary Elvis Presley and I'll head be jumping from one girl to another so just a thought hey be a hard guy acute around but it could probably have just about anything in the world if you did but the only problem is he's always with another woman have a nice day smiley Carl Garnett Toronto Ontario God bless be safe TCB

This is a "circle of life" type lyric. It speaks to the trap that poverty & hopelessness can bring. In the song, when one child (young man) dies tragically, another child is born to repeat the same likely fate. And Elvis had the moral authority to speak about being born into extreme poverty. Young people today see the "Vegas" Elvis, and all the bling and the wealth, and perhaps, feel that he has no moral right to sing lyrics like these. But his earliest home had no electricity, no indoor plumbing. Most of today's poor have at least those things. Elvis didn't.

That was 50 years ago and nothing’s changed in these inner city communities. Maybe they should stop voting Democratic and maybe things will change. Elvis always has a touch of knowing what’s going on and not afraid to attack it.

He was ahead of his time. He wasn’t afraid to stand up for what he thought was right.
