We used to walk over the Kennebec River (on the bridge) to get to downtown Bath, Maine. I loved looking around in Woolworths but my little nephew used to grab everything and there would be all sorts of excitement trying to make him behave! The return trip was always with him crying and making a fuss. Those were the days, alright!

@grandmajane2593 This Woolworth was in DeLand, Florida. Was equally fun looking around Ben Franklin's in Middlebury, VT, with my grandmother and parents. My dad bought me a fishbowl and goldfish there. I loved going there, even if we didn't buy anything.

@@t.b.9786 - I haven't been to Ben Franklin's but there was a store up there near the Canadian border that sold all sorts of old fashioned goods. North of Burlington, VT. I'm sure there are still interesting places for us to see if we just get busy and get out there! (I'm talking about myself mostly. l o l ) - My dad bought me 2 white rats! My mom used to make fried tuna patties. It 3 cans of tuna drained. You add two eggs bread crumb and add dried dill and 1 finely chopped onion and a little old bay seasoning and salt and pepper. Mix form into patties. Put in refrigerator for 15 minutes. Take out and fry in oil and serve either on toasted bread with mayo or serve with home made fried potatoes.

I`m gonna try to grow some sweet peas from a dry store package when the weather cools but my wild bunny friend loves peas and beans so I doubt they`ll last two days. I planted her two rows of bush green beans but she`s not a very smart garden manager and instead of eating the leaves and beans she ate the whole plants. They say wild bunnies only live about a year or two so I try to be nice to her since she trusts me. It`s interesting to get to watch a wild bunny up close and she comes to visit each morning.

I had to put wireless alarms and cardboard boxes around my pole beans and Bunny was always sitting there looking at them. One day an alarm went off and I thought it was her and I flung open the door and hollered, "BUNNY! NOOOO!" and a deer launched into the sky and came down on her back kicking her feet in the air in a patch of small trees and blackberries. Haven`t seen the deer since. I just bought a 100 ft plastic fence designed for bunnies. Maybe it will help. She`s still out there. She likes turnips and radishes now. @@nancywolf3786

I had an egg salad sandwich for supper tonight. I think tomorrow I'll eat sardines and crackers. The sardines in the flat container that you pull the ring off the top. I try to have tuna salad sandwiches or with crackers once a week. To make my hamburger stretch, I make mini loaf meatloaf's and freeze them. I also put the hamburger meat in a 1-gallon zip bag and flatten out the hamburger and freeze. I usually break off about a fourth and make a homemade sloppy joe using BBQ sauce and ketchup. I break off another fourth and make a small pot of homemade vegetable soup using a can of veg all or frozen mixed vegetables. I might add an onion and a diced potato and diced tomato. I usually eat one to two meals a day now. I try to fix one item to eat at a meal. Gotta tighten the belt because the wallet is sitting on empty. Looking at your can of sweet peas made me think about making me some peas and dumplings. If I get to hankering for something sweet, I just make me some cinnamon toast or toast with jelly. Glad Gracie helped you out this time. Enjoy your meal, Tom.

One of my comfort foods with tuna is Creamed tuna on toast. Consists of 1 can tuna, drained 1 can of cream of mushroom soup undiluted and some peas, canned or frozen. You don't need to use all the peas. That would be a bit much. Heat it up and have it on toast--so so good. When my mom comes and stays with us from time to time it is one of her favorite meals and she is 91. A big hello to Gracie and the kitty crew. Love your channel

Tuna & peas…That looks like the start of a baked tuna noodle casserole. Broad egg noodles, some onion & celery sautéed in butter, stir in some cream of celery soup, add tuna & peas, top wid breadcrumbs, & bake Alternatively, could turn tuna n peas into a cold tuna noodle salad. Elbow macaroni, some celery, carrot, red onion, tuna, peas Mayo, & a dash of paprika on top. Might want to substitute frozen peas…less mushie. Good eats either way!

I mix a can of tuna into macaroni & cheese and add powdered whole milk and powdered butter and some extra powdered cheese, onion and garlic powder and pepper. I can`t really afford to go to stores anymore and live in the Louisiana boondocks on disability with no car so I order sardines, tuna, macaroni and cheese, powdered milk and butter, rice, beans, nuts, vitamins, etc and try to grow what I can. The only things that grew this year was my okra and enough peas and beans to get next year`s seeds. Bad drought and extreme heat. I grow lettuce, greens and dwarf tomatoes indoors in winter for some raw food. Gotta eat my preps next month to get another expensive battery to add to my emergency power. 300 bucks gets me 5 or 6 more hours of nighttime air conditioning or 3 hours in the hot daytime. Or I can run either my small fridge or chest freezer two days or a 500w heater two hours.

Hi there Mr Tom,good to see you again ! I usually make a fish pie, I make extra mashed potatoes the night b4 from another meal to go on top of the tuna. I cook up a chopped onion in the microwave about 2min in a glass loaf or deep pie plate/bowl suitable for the oven and microwave,Pyrex or corningware type stuff. Then in a microwave I cook a couple of tablespoons of butter or marg to melt with the same of flour, salt and pepper and about 1teaspoon onion pwdr and whisk / smooth with wooden spoon. I Then add about half a pint of milk, or more if too thick and whisk.microwave on high ev 2mins or so until thick ish and creamy and smooth. Then add some cheese about a cup or more.... Then pour the sauce over the tuna and onions..and peas if you like. Cover with mashed taters and a little sprinkle if cheese and a fre slices of tomatos if you have any. Bake in oven or toaster oven for about 45mins to an hr at 180C/375F Leave to cool a bit once out, very yummy with black pepper/fresh bread and butter as a supper dish. God bless Mr Tom, pats to the Kitty krew from Sth Island New Zealand ❤❤❤ Ps,that's a big can of tuna or two small like you have. Enjoy your day❤

We used to eat canned salmon nearly every week in the 1970s when I was a child. It must have cost less than canned tuna. I remember eating a lot of salmon patties with white gravy along with cooked vegetables from our garden and homemade cornbread. One of the first family meals I made as a teenager was spaghetti pasta topped with marinara sauce from a jar. I added canned tuna to the sauce, and it was surprisingly tasty and not the least bit fishy tasting. I wasn't asked to cook again although everyone did seem to enjoy the meal once they got past the idea of tuna in the sauce. I guess it was outside their comfort zone.

50 years ago as a broke newly married the quick throw together was a can of tuna, can of peas, can of cream of something soup, and a box of Mac and cheese. Make the Mac snd cheese, add in tuna, soup, peas and enough milk to make a hot dish…. Now to cut the sodium I’ll have to look at other comments as I have tuna stored to use up now.

Grilled tuna sandwiches my grandsons love. Another recipe from my childhood, 70 plus yrs ago, I make salmon patties. My grandmother made a cream cod sauce over toast. At the time a very inexpensive meal for a family of 11

Speaking of your can of tuna or chicken perhaps, I keep a mayonnaise jar in my refrigerator for both tuna water and chicken water water when I drain the cans of meat. After a few canned there is enough to use to add flavor to your water for making rice. Just a few added nutrients for the pot! It's a trick I learned from my mother who survived World War II, the depression and everything up until her passing in 2000. She was very wise 92 year old Southern Belle who had survived most of the 20th century.

Do you separate them or do they go in the same mayo jar? I usually just give the juice to the stray cats.

Half a can of tuna in Mac & Cheese with green beans on the side. The other half goes into a cold tuna pasta salad for the next day. It gives me 2 or 3 meals out of 1 can. I should say I only cook for 1, with small tidbits for the pets as a treat.

Tuna, Minute rice, canned mushrooms, can of mixed vegetables. Use the liquid from the ingredients with water for the rice. Add whatever kind of cheese you like or just butter and Parmesan and some garlic salt.

I make a stove top tuna casserole using Velveeta Mac & cheese (prepared), add tuna, a can of cream of mushroom soup & a can of English peas, stir it all together and let simmer til all is heated or put in a casserole dish & baked. I have been buying canned MACKERAL instead of tuna. You get a big can of mackeral for around $2 as opposed to a tiny can of tuna for about $1 (or a little less). More cost effective to buy the mackeral over tuna and you get actual mackeral over tuna MUSH (unless you can afford the high dollar tuna or albacore).

My mom would make macaroni salad with tuna, boiled eggs, chopped cucumber and mayo. I make it with onion powder, dill pickles, tuna, pasta on hand, mayo, paprika and a little mustard. Dukes mayonnaise is the best, but use what is cheaper now.

I like making a cold tuna & pasta casserole, tuna sandwiches or use it in a fish chowder. I always try to have some kind of fish for supper once a week also. We buy a tray of fresh haddock in the fall and freeze them individually here in N.S. Canada. Take care.

Great, fun video. I love tuna salad. Just tuna, boiled chopped eggs, sweet relish and mayo. Serve over lettuce. Sometimes i use olives instead of relish. I have never had tuna casserole or creamed tuna and peas. Sounds delicious. Thanks everyone for new ideas. ❤

We get tuna in oil and use the oil to make Italian-style dressing for our tuna salads. No waste, and more food energy/calories for your buck. No expensive fish oil capsules to buy ;)

My Italian mother would take a couple cans of light tuna in oil and she would add that to her sauce pan that she had fried up some chopped garlic in olive oil, then she'd add some dried basil and rinse the tuna cans out with some water and add that to the pan till it boiled. She would then boil up a box of spaghetti and strain it lightly, put it in a pasta bowl, and pour the hot tuna mixture over it and stir! She called that mixture a poor man's "clam" sauce! She'd grate up on her metal box grater some fresh Romano or Parmesan cheese, and we would sprinkle it over our plates of spaghetti! That fabulous garlic smell was all through the house! I still make it to this day as do both of my grown boys.
