P.s. Typo at 1:27 -- meant to say Banded Sunfish. Heh.
August 18th, 2020 (Session 54) - I explored a "cranberry bog" in the NJ Pine Barrens for endemic species of fish. For my surprise, I ended up encountering and catching a bucket-list species. Read more about it below:
Did you know that...?
👊...As for 2020, the NJ Wildlife still classifies the following Species of fish as protected: (1) the Bluespotted Sunfish (Enneacanthus gloriosus), (2) the Banded Sunfish (Enneacanthus obesus), (3) the Blackbanded Sunfish (Enneacanthus chaetodon), and (4) the Mud Sunfish (Acantharchus pomotis). I wasn't able to find the latest copy on the rules and regulations for NJ's protected species; however, in 2016, I called a "Captain" that belonged to the NJ Wildlife. We spoke over the phone for a little over ten minutes. According to him, then, it was illegal to (A) purposely target protected species in NJ, and (B) harvest, collect, or take protected Species outside of the water without a Freshwater Collections Permit. Additionally, he stated that protected species had to be released immediately -- with no rooms for photos or photo-tanks. I am not sure if these regulations still stand; however, be advised that one should practice safe fish handling skills when dealing with these species when accidentally caught.
👊...the Blackbanded Sunfish (Enneacanthus chaetodon) completed my Enneacanthus collection. I have now caught all three Species in this genus, listed above.
👊...It took me two years to catch the superfecta. The Mud Sunfish came first, on May 9th, 2018. It was my 200th species on my Lifelist! You can watch that video here: • A MILESTONE! I Finally... . Then, came the Bluespotted Sunfish (201st Species), on July 18th, 2018. That video is still available as a perk for the inner circle (i.e. Patreon & KZbin Monthly Members). A year after, on June 8th, 2019, I caught my first ever Banded Sunfish ( • NEW SPECIES ALERT!!! H... -- Species 233). And finally, in this video, the Blackbanded Sunfish completed the set (287th Species). It has been quite the journey, huh?

Hi Leo, Those are definitely cranberries. I used to work on cranberry research and blueberry research out near Lake Oswego. My only concerns about eating them would be pesticide runoff, it looks pretty isolated there but you never do know. FYI raw cranberries are not usually very pleasant to eat in my experience. Great vid! Great channel!

You may be underestimating the redfin pickerel, you are fishing big open water where chain pickerel like to sit. Ahhh! That's a good one, NTanz. I remember when I caught my first ever Atlantic Spanish Mackerel _(Scomberomorus maculatus)._ It was in North Carolina, on a pier. Good times!
