The first time I watched this film, I was holding my breath the entire time. I felt like by simply breathing, I was invading the characters' personal space. I was a voyeur. The film was too personal and too intimate, but at the same time it was also distant. Truly one of the best contemporary films I've ever seen. A work of art!

this movie wreaks havoc with our minds...not knowing which scene is roleplay and which is not. One can watch it both ways...and see two films in one. brilliant. The audience falls in love with both lead characters. And feels the pain. I wish I can get a print of any shot...just to hang on my wall...and each day be reminded of what love is.

I love all of Wong Kar-wai’s films but In the Mood for Love has to be his magnum opus. Sure people can argue it’s more conventional and less creative/stylistic than his other films. However, I just think everything from the composition, to the framing, to the lighting, to the cinematography in general in this film is masterfully done. It’s so mature and just so... perfect.

I feel like this is different from all of his other films. In his other films he loves to put the camera super close to the character's faces, and give us this distorted, subjective feel. In this movie, the camera maintains a distance from the character, refrains from looking across the doorway. I feel like every shot has this hidden power quivering.
