Thank you Chuck for mentioning Yellow Magic Orchestra! Along with Kraftwerk, they're one of the pioneers of many forms of electronic music including synth-pop and techno. Bill Nelson of Be-Bop Deluxe has worked together and performed live with YMO's drummer Yukihiro Takahashi in the early 80s. Nelson even played guitars on the band's most accessible synth-pop album "Naughty Boys" in 1983. Ryuichi Sakamoto became a very frequent collaborator with Japan's David Sylvian as well. YMO's first 2 albums, self-titled and Solid State Survivor are essential pieces of catchy electronic music. They're slowly becoming more appreciated over the years but still very underrated in my opinion.

As the concluding rhyme goes "...now I've said my ABC's, tell me what you think of me." The tell - well done and thanks to all the various co-captains of In The Prog Seat for completing the herculean task of giving us an alphabet of choices from A to Z. There has been enough recommended that listening to all that interested me over the course of this series obviously will take some time for listening. Thanks again, everyone.

This was a very fun series, and by the number of letters combined for the finale, more name-checked personal faves than I feel like going over at the moment. No way I can close this without mentioning the hilarity in watching the majority of the panel picking a certain band featuring George's favorite asshat for the letter V. 😜 Looking forward to what's coming in 2023.

Hey Pete, two things: 1. The Vanden Plas album is pronounced Christ Zero. 2. I did some searching but couldn't find a show like this suggestion: a panel discussion about musicians leaving bands and if you'd prefer they stayed or are you happier with their solo careers. I'll give you an example: Steve Hackett. I feel that Genesis really declined after he left (except for the Duke album) and I wonder what Genesis would've been like had he stayed. However, I love the solo career he's had. You could do a show like this on both HVS & ITPS.

I am going to try and be respectful, but Robert Wyatt was not only a great artist, but he was also a great vocalist. If you want to check out a couple of his great vocals, you may want to listen to: Matching Mole - "O Caroline" Robert Wyatt - "Shipbuilding" (try the version from Old Grey Whistle Test -1983) I remember "O Caroline" from when I was at school. A classic love song. The context of "Shipbuilding" elevates a great song to a true classic. A real tearjerker made even more emotional by Robert Wyatt's performance.

Not yet had the chance to watch the show but reviewing the picks nice to see Ken picking Xystus, which is one I had, I also had Xandria - though not sure if they are too metal to include here? I also for z have Zomby Woof, a German band from the late 70's presumably taking their name from a song by mr Zappa and early 80's Danish band Zaragon, presumably taking their name from a fantastic John Miles album. There was also the name change for the Scottish band Citizen Cain who spelled it Xitizen Xain on their Dark Skies album - not sure if that counts but thought I'd throw it out there nonetheless😁 And Zon's follow up album isnt That bad, especially if you want to clap your hands and stomp your feet😄 And thanks for the series, really enjoyed it - lots of great new bands to discover and nice to know others have some of the lesser known ones I have. This year In the Prog Seat and the UK Connection have been absolute must watches for me on SoT Festive greetings and happy holidays to everyone 🥳🥳🥳

Wilderun- my favorite band of the past few years. Incredible symphonic prog folk metal with a hint of death metal and growls. Veil of Imagination is an absolute masterpiece. It is profoundly musical with incredible melodies and orchestrations, perfect transitions, and lush singing. The cover art sucked me in to check it out, so start there and see if it interests you. Fans of Opeth, Haken, Devin Townsend will find something here. And Pete gave this year’s album Epigone a great review. Dave Weckl: I was hooked on his first three solo albums throughout my teenage years. John Zorn: his catalog is too big to fathom. I love his Masada stuff, which is comprised of hundreds of songs that have been performed by many different types of ensembles. Frank Zappa

It's been a great ride guys. Thanks for the effort. I got turned on to some great new bands. Particularly Finnforest, who I can't stop listening to. A band who wasn't mentioned that I think everyone in the group would appreciate, if you haven't already heard them before, is ZEBULON PIKE from Minneapolis. All instrumental, progressive metal with massive riffs, complicated arrangements and apocalyptic guitar tones. Big Sabbath influence but FAR from traditional doom metal. Punishing, HEAVY stuff.

Good call on Robert Wyatt Chuck, my favorite is “Shleep”, but “Rock Bottom” is excellent to as are “Cuckooland” and “Comicopira his las album. @Pete, don’t agree about Robert’s singing, it suits his solo material more than it did Soft Machine and particularly his singing on “Shleep” is wonderful, I would rather listen to Wyatt’s unique vocals than the majority of Prog metal Vocalists which you can’t distinguish from each other.

Without knowing the actual intent I ignore it and perhaps chalk it up to their stupidity. There is nothing that I know of that indicates a Nazi supporting philosophy from any VDGG members - not in lyrical content or from interviews.

@@lasercd7851 Its not obvious, but in the latest triple disc reissue, which Pete had, they have hidden it right inside the booklet. The salute has gone from the back sleeve and inner sleeve. Maybe the me too and take a knee campaigns have finally had an effect on them, so they don't even jest with it!

I listened. Down By The River was very good. The 9 minute track had too much violin noodling. The middle of the album was pleasant but leaned a bit too much to the folk side. I see this album all the time very cheap. I might pick it up. Thanks for the tip.

@@lasercd7851 Flying Dutchman is an excellent song and Feeling Bad Ain’t Good Enough is great also. There are some quieter tracks like Fading Lady and Oh in the Morning and Heart Like a Wheel (a Kate and Anna McGarrigle song). There's such a huge number of great prog/fusion acts starting with U-Z that it'd be a ridiculously long list. Honestly I count at least 40 greats just under Prog alone. So not even gonna try to list all of those. There are somewhat less under Fusion so this is my Fusion (only) list: UZEB - Live In Europe, Noisy Nights, Wold Tour 90 Valeriy Stepanov Fusion Project - Live, Album No 2, Live 2 Venegoni & Co. - Rumore Rosso Vernon Reid & Masque - Known Unknown, Other True Self Vertu - s/t, all time classic fusion Vino - Voyage Virgin's Dream - Sophisty Vismala & Neander - Digital Shaman, very good record from this year! Vital Information - Ray Of Hope, Where We Come From Vtt2 - Vital Tech Tones Chad Wackerman - Dreams, Nightmares And Improvisations, Scream, Fory Reasons, The View Ulf Wakenius - Momento Magico, Back To The Roots Wasafiri -s/t, another one from 2022 Kazumi Watanabe - great player, at least 15 very good albums/too many to list Watson's Riddle - Featuring Chuck Leavell Wayne Johnson Trio - Arrowhead, Grasshopper, Keeping The Dream Alive, Spirit Of The Dancer Weather Report - obvious pick... Dave Weckl - Convergence, Heads Up, Perpetual Motion, synergy, Rhythm Of The Soul Lenny White - 5 fine solo albums Tony Williams - hugely important figure in fusion for the Lifetime stuff plus The Joy Of Flying & Live Tokyo 1978 Victor Wooten - Slippin' N' Trippin', A Show Of Hands Koichi Yabori - Bloomfield Stomu Yamashta - another great Japanese player with/without Go Yellowjackets - not a huge fan but their guitar albums are good (Robben Ford), also Mint Jam, Four Corners, Run For Your Life, Shades... Yoshiaki Masuo & Jan Hammer - Finger Dancing The Zawinul Syndicate - The Immigrants
