The Lamb was such a seminal album and for me is still the highwater mark for all 70's prog. It is fearless and genre bending and sad in a way that nothing has ever succeeded in matching it. They showed the world what could be done in the greatest zaniest, dark/light piece of music ive ever heard. I believe it was the highest level of musicianship each member had ever attained; and it happened at the same time, on that album

@@KingCrimson82 The problem with Foxtrot is Supper's Ready. It is easily Genesis's most overrated song. That's not to say it isn't a great track, but the amount of props it gets from fans is ridiculously out of proportion and I believe, based entirely on its length. Fans seem to feel obliged to speak of it in hushed tones as the band's opus major. I mean, really? Have they never heard Cinema Show or Firth of Fifth? And there isn't a song off Nursery Cryme that I would rate lower than Supper's Ready. It has its high points but it's desperately in need of a firm edit. I could name 10 Genesis songs off the top of my head which I prefer, and I could certainly name several prog epics by other bands which I like much more. And one more thing - if 6 of ANYTHING are moving in the same direction, behind another one which is in front of them, then the one in FRONT is the FIRST, not the seventh. The seventh would be at the back, right behind the sixth.

I'm 49 and I really didn't start to sink my teeth into 1970s era Genesis until this past year. I bought Nursery Cryme many years ago, thought it was okay, but I wasn't overly impressed with it at the time. I bought The Lamb... several years later, and I liked that one better, but it was a lot to digest. Some of it is a bit tedious, but I do really like most of it. I heard Foxtrot this past year and that album totally won me over. The album is awesome from start to finish. Supper's Ready is an incredible epic. I have listened to Selling England... and I like that one as well. Trespass isn't bad either. Yesterday I watched the video of everyone's favorite album and it piqued my curiosity that several of them chose A Trick of the Tail, so last night, after meaning to get to it for several months, I decided to finally give that album a spin. I was blown away. The album is just incredible all the way through. It turns out I had heard more of it than I thought, which is always a wonderful bonus when you hear a new album. Can't wait to get it.

What a brilliant episode, guys. My favourite Genesis album is too difficult to nail down, but it'd be between Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, and Selling England by the Pound. I also adore Trick, Trespass and The Lamb. Least favourite is probably Invisible Touch or We Can't Dance. However, I don't quite share the hate for the latter. No Son of Mine, Driving The Last Spike, Fading Lights, and Living Forever are solid songs, albeit not as strong as their 70s output. Regarding comments about Steve Hackett in the documentary, it's easy to point fingers at Tony, but I think Mike is also a culprit. Look at Rutherford's expression when Steve is 'apologising' for going solo; he has a face like a slapped arse. At least Tony openly admits that he 'shouted the loudest' and got what he wanted when it came to what songs appeared on an album. But Mike just looks utterly miserable when Hackett was speaking. I'm also convinced that Rutherford is the one guy in the band who doesn't like the 70s material, at least not enough to perform it in full. Phil is known to be a big fan of Supper's Ready and The Lamb, Tony's favourite period is Foxtrot to Duke, but Mike rarely seems to heap praise on the 70s material. If you listen to his comments on the 2007 remaster interviews, while he does have some positive things to say about the early material, he makes it clear that he prefers bits of songs. He said Watcher of the Skies had a strong intro, but didn't think much of the lyrics. Dance on a Volcano he wasn't sure about the rest of the song beyond the first verse or so. I'm convinced that the medleys are a result of Phil and Tony having to compromise with Mike when it comes to the older material.

I was lucky enough to see the Lamb Lies Down tour with Gabriel at Maple Leaf Gardens in December of 1974 . It was sensational , and those songs have real power live . I also saw the '76 tour with Bill Bruford on drums , which was also excellent . I saw every tour afterward from Wind & Wuthering through to 1992 . While every concert was very entertaining , they were not the same without Hackett , who was understandably great playing the classic Genesis songs live with the band . I'm still stuck on Nursery Cryme as my favorite. From Duke onward, no interest. I went and watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech and noted that Steve Hackett showed up (no Peter). Phil spoke for the band, then he and Mike walk off the stage when Steve Hackett starts to talk. Hovering behind him the whole time is Tony Banks. He was all smiles when Phil spoke, but then his face became more stern as Steve talked. I got some uncomfortable vibes. Steve seemed genuinely warm and appreciative. Banks looked unhappy to share the stage with him.
@emdiar658811 ай бұрын
When DOESN'T Banks look unhappy? He is the grumpy old git of the band. Most bands have at least one. Totally agree with your pick for favourite album, and Duke: the point at which they became a Dad-Rock band, writing AOR Radio fodder for prematurely middle-aged Jeremy Clarkson fans to play in their Audi Quattros on their way to the local Young Conservative Club. (Didn't Phil famously threaten to leave the UK if Thatcher lost in '83? I grew up in a mining town which was on its knees at the time and about to die a death, so yeah... fuck Phil Collins and his miserable, mawkish, piss weak break-up songs.) The trouble is, I got Nursery Cryme when I was 12, when I totally fell in love with Prog, then when I turned 13 they released Duke. It actually stopped me caring about the band I had just discovered. Then Yes released Drama about 5 months later, which is WAY more Prog, so I became a Yes fanatic. I had already discovered Selling England, Foxtrot and Trespass, which I loved, but thanks to Duke, I have never even bonded with aTTW3, which I hadn't yet heard. I tried to give them a pass but then ABACAB came out and I have never played a single song of theirs released post that abomination against music. I never use the phrase ''Gabriel-era Genesis''. It is a meaningless distinction to me, because TOTT clearly belongs with those albums. Instead I say ''Hackett-era'', because it says so much more and it saves me having to be an apologist for aTTW3, which only gets a partial pass form me.

If you want to hear what Genesis might have sounded with guitar forward in it, watch Steve’s Genesis live. It’s not identical of course but that is the whole point!! Great guitarist.
@wolf19772 жыл бұрын
I like both versions but to me you just can't beat the original Genesis versions. I'm a guitar guy but to me the level of the guitars on the early albums sounds fine, I've never found myself thinking: "Hey crank up Hackett". In hindsight now that others are complaining about the guitar levels I guess I get it, but again honestly I never really thought that when first listening to the music...Maybe on Seconds Out but even there it sounds OK to me. Hackett "reimagining" the Genesis classics is fine, I own a bunch of it & he does a great job. That's the whole point of rerecording that music, if it sounded exactly the same as the original then why bother in the first place? Also since those versions are now on a guitarist's solo album you should expect the guitar levels to be higher. Do I like those versions more than the originals because the guitar is more prominent? No, I'll take Gabriel/Banks/Rutherford/Collins/Hackett any day over anyone's reworked versions

@@wolf1977 I agree with you and I think it’s what underlies all of this - why we all feel so passionate about the 70s music of Genesis, we loved it then and still do. In truth, there are times I struggle to tell if I’m listening to keys or guitar. What I always felt sad about was how the band seemed to turn their backs on that period. I saw them at Wembley Stadium on the Invisible Touch tour and it broke my heart, I felt out of place and unwanted, consigned to their “old” medley, which I hate - I’d rather they just played one of the 70s tracks properly. Of course, it was their prerogative entirely and understandably Peter had also moved away. I think its one of the reasons why I like and admire Steve for going back later and by doing it his way showing just how vital and alive these old prog tracks can be. It was really nice to see some younger people in the Seconds Out revisited audience, I guess sharing the gig with parents. Maybe Tony or Mike will join Steve at some point but not holding my breath!

Growing up in the eighties, my first introduction to Genesis was their eighties pop hits, I didn't know anything about their early stuff. Around the time that We Can't Dance came out my dad had told me about how he remembered seeing them play on Midnight Speciak and being bemused by Peter Gabriel's weird costumes. I was very aware of Gabriel's solo music, so I was like, "Peter Gabriel!?!!? Solsbury Hill, Games Without Frontiers, Steam, Sledge Hammer, Digging In The Dirt? That Peter Gabriel? No way!" So, then I went and listened back to the early Prog Genesis stuff as soon as a friend of mine gave me the 1973 Genesis Live album. Took me completely by surprise, especially The Musical Box. Around that same time, I was listening to a college rock/jazz/blues radio station one night and the DJ played Time Table and Carpet Crawlers, which again surprised me; my jaw dropped! Since then I have been voraciously devouring Genesis albums--especially the early ones. My favorite is Nursery Crime. It's prog rock gold! That album has everything I love about prog rock! My least favorite is Calling All Stations. There were some friends of mine who told me I should hear the new singer and they had kinda gone back to their prog roots. I couldn't and still can't get through even a couple of songs on it. The material sounds like it's just a platform for Banks and Rutherford, there's no strength in collective composition like the best of Genesis. And the sound is too awful, to slick!

Steve is very diplomatic and Luis is right, he’s a very nice guy, I’ve met him twice.

Steve is a gentleman to his fingertips and then some. My impression is that Mike and Tony always treated him as a guest musician in the band and not an actual member. In the end it's their loss, because in my opinion he bottom fell out when Steve left. And it's thanks to Steve I have been able to experience Genesis' music live. I have seen him and his band on every tour they've had. They have all been memories for life.

Great show guys... my fave would be The Lamb. I agree with Ken & Chad that it was an outlier, but was also groundbreaking. Back in NYC was basically a punk rock song a ahead of the debuts by the Ramones and Sex Pistols. I disagree about the filler, and I know i'm in the minority but to me both lps hold well together and each part flows and has purpose, especially when it was done live. Least fav was CAS, Mike and Tony should have called it something different... although there is some decent material, it doesn't feel like a proper Genesis album.

The only way to appreciate Genesis now is to see Steve Hackett live. I will be seeing him again this October for the Teenth time I have seen him every year bar covid for the last 12 years and bar a big gap saw him twice in the late 70's early 80's on his first solo tours and he is like a fine wine he and his shows have got better every time I see him. For man in his 70's there are few who can still kill it like he does.

1)FOXTROT - I agree that the next 2 probably sounded better as overall productions, but this is still my favourite. 2)THE LAMB and ABACAB. I only got into these two relatively recently - very different but I love both. I wouldn’t argue with anyone who has TRICK as their fave - it’s really very good all the way through and accessible to a new listener. I just don’t listen to the last couple of albums very much - eventually all musicians just run out of great songs. Let’s face it, they were never going to top Firth Of Fifth, Los Endos, Mama etc, were they? Re. Banks and Hackett - I think Banks is the kind of Englishman that some people might find hard to relate/warm to. In interviews, his generally dry and undemonstrative persona may make him seem aloof and a bit buttoned-up. Personally, I get where he’s coming from and I appreciate his honesty and humour when he’s talking about their history and catalogue, but I can understand if he puts some people’s backs up, although I think they’re misjudging him. And I think he is probably the main writer of much of Genesis's most classic prog material. He was never and never claimed to be a Wakeman or Emerson technically, but he's my favourite keyboard player by a large margin and one of my favourite all round musicians. To me, the main issue with Hackett when he left was that the others didn’t particularly like his songs. Although he made great writing contributions in Entangled and Blood On The Rooftops as two examples, having listened to and enjoyed some of his solo stuff, IMO his main talent is really for playing rather than writing - there are parallels with Don Felder in The Eagles. I would say that most of the 3-piece lineup albums are still better than any Hackett solo album, even if generally he stayed more prog than they did. There’s a reason why Hackett’s shows featuring classic Genesis material are still so popular, and I suspect that a decent percentage of what he’s playing was largely composed by Banks. Having said that, I saw his UK tour in 2015 and it was a great show., and Nad Sylvan is the perfect singer for the old songs. Incidentally. I’m pretty sure Hackett introduced Can Utility… by saying that as far as he could remember they only played it once or twice back in the day. Anyway, very entertaining discussion, even if I disagreed with some of it quite strongly. Great stuff, many thanks :)

At least there's no being pissed at Steve Hackett being buried in the mix. Least favourite Invisible Touch.
@mvancha2 жыл бұрын
I am very happy to see "And then there were three" on this list...I think 5 or 6 albums beat it but it is so underrated with every song on it being great. It's their last great album and a perfect mix between prog and pop with Phill still being a secondary songwriter to Tony and Mike....I even love the main verses and keyboard solo of "Follow you, follow me" even if I don't like the chorus that much...The only thing that's missing is great guitar playing as Mike Rutherford is not really a guitar player....Their next album "Duke" is where they start to jam together to create their songs for the most part instead of writing them alone separately and this is were the songs really suffer. Genesis have always been great songwriters who work tirelessly to create great songs when they work out their song parts individually.
@wolf19772 жыл бұрын
@@mvancha I agree that Rutherford isn't a great guitarist, in a pinch he can fill in but shouldn't be their first option. Thankfully live they used Daryl Stuermer who did a fine job. This is great! I was in high school (06-10) when i got into Genesis thanks to a book at the local library on psychedelic/prog/Canterbury sound rock (also turned me on to Zappa, Soft Machine, and the Beach Boys). This was at a time when it wasn't cool to like these bands if you were my age, and certainly before the internet truly broke down the era barriers to the point where now, "old music is killing the new." It was a real bummer wanting to tell my friends about these incredible albums and just the fact that at one time, there was so much effort and ambition in rock and popular music. No one wanted to listen to me talk about them or paid any attention to my recommendations. Now that I'm 30, its nice to finally see whole communities of all ages appreciating this fine music. This was like sitting back with a couple of friends shooting the shit on the one of the best bands England ever produced. A nice time.

Genesis with Ant was so pastoral. It flourished with addition of Phil and Steve. It suffered a major change when Peter went solo. And Then There Were Three, when Steve left. And they released 'Invisible Touch,' and I was out. Collectively, their body of work is like The Rolling Stones of prog. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden said in the 80s 'Supper's Ready has been blowing me away for years.' That's how I feel about The Carpet Crawlers.

Luis, your monologue against 'We Can't Dance' was better than Bret S. Easton's 'American Psycho.' Willie Loman swerved into oncoming traffic because 'I Can't Dance' came on the radio. Fave: TRICK OF THE TAIL (1976) always has been. ☀️ Worst: WE CAN'T DANCE (who gives a shit what year...just toss it into a gas fire) Similar to what Pete said about the excellent "Foxtrot," TRICK OF THE TAIL has "always" been at the top for me. And also, similar to what Pete said about Foxy's "artwork," I've always liked Trick's cover image best as well. So it's the complete package for me. And btw, no one mentioned "SQUONK" Talk about one of the greatest heavy riffs of prog in the 70s. As soon as SQUONK begins, I'm locked in for the trip, every damn time! Now....as for "We Can't Dance," you guys said it best (most especially Louis!! --- man, that was as good as watching quality stand up! Thank you for the genuine laughs, Louis! I am so with you on all counts (i.e. all valid and deserving, hilarious insults) That record, for me as well, is nothing but a hot, steaming plate of diarrhea. *Side note: I like "Shapes" (1983) ⭐🌕⚠️➕⚡ Honestly, I have since I bought it new that very year, when I was 17. Obviously, it wasn't PG era or even mid to later 70s PC, but I thought (and still think) it's a decent record of it's time, with overall good catchy songs, matched to some also good stabs of prog here and there) *also enjoy "Duke," "Abacab" and "Three Sides Live" (+single "Paperlate" etc. as well) That said, when the total sell out known as "Invisible Touch" came out three years later, I was done. The "title track" is insipid... to me, it sounded like something housewives might enjoy while linen shopping at K-Mart. And while there's a couple decent things in there somewhere, I never bought it. I not only didn't want to buy it, it felt like I would be committing a "crime against rock n roll" if I purchased that thing. In general, you just knew it was officially done...a band that totally sold out, jumped the shark, etc. I eventually picked up a copy as part of a CD lot I purchased on Discogs a couple years ago (just to be "the completist" I am...again similar to what Pete said), but I gotta tell ya, I never listen to it. And it'll just sit there for the rest of my days as the sterile, undeserving piece of crap that it is. But still....it ain't "We Can't Dance" 💩 With that coaster of a bored secretary's morning glory, a whole new level of SUCK was unleashed on the masses. Trite, banal, robotic commercial garbage. One of the worst records of all time. But I guess those "masses" ate it up. Feh.... I guess this is one big reason why I don't so much enjoy hanging out with the masses. M

I was introduced to Genesis with Invisible Touch and worked backwards. Shapes was the soundtrack to me reading Stephen King while on a road trip from the Midwest to New England, and Follow You, Follow Me was the song my wife recommended we dance to as our first dance... but cover to cover, my favorite album has been Duke. I used to listen to that while mowing the lawn as a kid and I rediscovered it again last year. I can't find a track I dislike, and the suite is so great live. Turn It On Again is a miracle of a pop song - Phil's 13/4 rhythm has such an incredible pocket to it that it fools a lot of folks I introduce it to, even if they're into music. Hell, Heathaze is massively underrated... it's grown to be my favorite all-time. But I Can't Dance... yeah, that's... eh.

My favourite studio album by Genesis is Trespass. It was one of the last albums by them I got but I totally love the folky atmosphere, Anthony Phillips and the young Gabriel voice. And „The Knife“ is a great rocker. A lot of people could not believe it was Genesis when I played that one to them. My least favourite is From Genesis to Revelation. I hate the sappy strings the producer put on this record and the song writing isn‘t great either. The only song I kind of like is „Am I Very Wrong?“. Some Demoes the have released from the archives later are way more interesting. I love We Can‘t dance because the live albums after that introduced me to the band and to more progressive music in general. Of course the production could have been better and some songs should have been left off but Phil‘s drumming was still top notch. I got Calling all Station around the time of release and enjoyed it a lot back then even if I was confused about Phil not being on that album first. It lost a lot of momentum over time but there are still some songs I enjoy from time to time. I think it depends a lot when you‘re joining a bandwagon which albums or eras you prefer but as I became a big Genesis fan in 1997 I did not have feelings they betrayed me as an old fan may have had getting into them in the 70s. I was just happy to go back in time and discover their treasures from the 70s and when I am listening to their stuff on vinyl today I am thankful for that little glimpse of listening experience I get while looking at all the album cover details that I may have had back then if I had been alive.

With a band that has been around for so long, and observed so many eras and lineup changes, i have time for the different sensibilities we see. I can enjoy all the different eras of this band, and i am an unabashed fan of both Phil and Pete. I suppose it's an artifact of the fact that i was a child of the 80's, and their 80's albums helped define me as a music fan. We Can't Dance is a fine pop album, imo. Least favorite: We Can't Dance is an easy pick. The less said about it, the better. "I Can't Listen.” My first exposure to Genesis was probably around the age of 12 or 13 (76-77). My sister is five years older than me and I was fortunate enough to get to hang out with her cool friends (sometimes), going to movies, mini-golf, concerts and so forth. Her one friend Dan had a great sound system in his car and Trick of the Tail and Selling England by the Pound were in heavy rotation. Those are heavy sentimental favorites, and of course, just flat-out musical favorites. During this time, I eventually worked my way back to Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot. Then forward to Wind and Wuthering and And Then There Were Three. Also, there was a trip where I rode up the Northway with Dan to help my sister move into her dorm at SUNY Plattsburgh. This was my first exposure to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and I was blown away. A favorite is always a tough call: I usually go back and forth between Selling England and Lamb (when I'm not between Foxtrot and Trick). I guess I'm in the rare camp that doesn't think The Lamb Peters (or Gabriel's... *groan*) out in the second half, and additionally, I actually like the story even though it can be admittedly undecipherable and enigmatic at times. I may be more interested in lyrics than some music enthusiasts. And especially for Gabriel, I’m willing to invest the time with what he’s singing. There’s the common perception that it's about identity and an exploration of the self and our relationship with others and the outside world? Coming of age? Stuff like that. Because I like the whole piece front-to-back, because the story/lyrics baffle yet intrigue me, and because of my first experience with it (and the age I was at the time), I give a slight Edge to The Lamb. It’s just so immersive and has so many textures and different avenues - even for Genesis - that it remains my top pick. Side-bar interpretation on a parallel theme that may tie in alongside Rael's journey: What or who is the lamb? Why is (s)he lying down on Broadway? Is it the death or surrender (or transition) of something? Is it anything to do with idealism, the end of the '60s, a change in music/culture/etc.? Do all the quotes/references to song titles have any significance?: On Broadway Blowing in the Wind ("The wind is blowing....") In the Mood Blue Suede Shoes Needles and Pins My Girl ("I got sunshine....") My Little Runaway Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head Revolution 9 ("Brother John is No.9....") Walking on the Moon (Gabriel as prophet, foretelling the Police song?) Purple Haze It's Only Rock and Roll ("Cos it's only knock and know all, but I like it....") And Prophet Gabriel again (?) earlier, singing about "mythical Madonnas still walking in their shades" invoking all the NYC-based Madonna superfans (Madonna-wannabees) copping her look in the '80s. OK, it's a massive stretch and wild speculation without evidence... but who am I to question Pete's borderline mystical abilities?

Been a fan of Genesis since first hearing them in 1974. Great to hear everyone's comments and reasons for their favorite Genesis albums, and can't disagree with any of them, as The Lamb, Trick, Selling England, and Foxtrot are all tremendous albums, and would be my top 4 as well. I agree with most of the things said about each album. As great as each of those albums are, my favorite among them is an easy choice for me, as it has been my favorite for probably the last 40 years, and that is FOXTROT. Foxtrot is not only my favorite Genesis album, but I think it is the greatest progressive rock album of all time, and 'Supper's Ready' is the greatest progressive rock song of all-time (or 'piece' as it is much more than simply a song). There is so much going on in it, and with all the different sections, I never get tired of it. And it is one of the only long-form pieces that not only doesn't drag in spots, but that actually seems too short, in that when it reaches the conclusion, you just want it to continue on longer (That's one reason why Steve Hackett's live recreations of the song are so satisfying, with his extended finale section that allows him to just wail on for several more minutes). But, as Pete said, the rest of the album is great as well. For me, 'Can Utility and the Coastliners' is an underrated masterpiece, among the very best Genesis songs, and then with great songs like 'Watcher of the Skies', 'Time Table', and 'Get 'Em Out By Friday' as well, there is just no way to top it. For me, next would come Selling England, which was the first Genesis album I ever heard, and I was instantly mesmerized by it, just great from start to finish. Next, I have to go with Trick of the Tail, for many of the reasons mentioned by those that picked it. And Then Lamb. As stated by more than one of you, the first disc is superb and would compete for number 1, but for me, some of the problems with disc 2 put it a bit lower than the others. But all are great, and I would add Wind and Wuthering to the top 5, as all great albums. But for Least favorite, I understand all the comments and reasoning given, as well as some of the anger and resentment for the later albums. But for me, some of those chosen are not really bad (they may not be good, but not really bad), but have to be considered for what they are, pop albums, and as pop albums are, for the most part, catchy and inoffensive. So, I don't mind We Can't Dance, Calling All Stations, or at least parts of Invisible Touch (I don't like them, but they are merely forgettable). For me, their worst album, and what was the most disappointing album I have ever heard in my life, is ABACAB. Just hate this album. Not because they went full pop after the surprisingly good Duke, because this isn't even pop music (there's really nothing even poppy here, more of an attempt at new wave or even punk?) , it is just bad. With this album they undid all of the things that were great about Genesis. Gone are the lush soundscapes, intricate instrumentals, and beautiful melodies, only to be replaced by songs that are simplistic, repetitive, tuneless, and frankly annoying. I can understand they wanted to try something different, but this is just terrible, a complete wrong direction for the band. Fortunately, they rebounded somewhat with the much better Genesis (shapes) album in 1983, the highpoint of the post-Duke albums.

The moments in "Can-Utility and the Coastliners" are stellar. Having it on Genesis LIVE would be awesome. All of Phil's drumming on the early Genesis is spectacular.

Hi great episode, for future videos can you please consider recommending the best sounding version of albums whether they be vinyl or a specific remastered version. Also if you feel the albums are poorly produced and sound less than they should, perhaps discussing which albums would benefit from a remix and by whom would add more insight. Thanks again.

I'll never forget the first time I heard The Invisible Touch on the radio. I was appalled. It's execrable. I didn't go near the album, and haven't been near anything they made subsequently. I loved 'Abacab', though. Favourite Genesis album? Far and away, and without a shadow of a scintilla of a soupçon of a doubt, 'The Lamb'.

Sunday night I saw Steve Hackett for first time - he did whole of Selling England and Seconds Out. His keyboardist is excellent. Banks’ execution can be mimicked, but a guitar is much more an organic extension of the player. Just compare Daryl Steurmer with Hackett…! I think your right - Hackett was the spirit of the band, who gave life to the incredible musical structures that came from Banks.

After all of these years, I still feel that the 1-2 back to back punch of TOTT and Wind and Wuthering is the absolute best for me. Throw in Seconds Out, during that time frame, and you have the perfect trifecta, IMO.

Yeah tough to understand the hate by some for Seconds Out, I think it's the first Genesis record I heard start to finish & hooked me for life. Absolutely no filler, an all time classic live album even without Gabriel (and I love Gabriel-era Genesis)

@@wolf1977 If my memory serves me correct, I think I actually blew out one of my stereo speakers when I cranked up Los Endks off of Seconds Out. You know the part...when the Taurus bass pedals thump in along with the Mellotron choir. That's when I upgraded my so-so Kenwood speakers to some JBL's. 🔊

@@benavich8 Nice speaker upgrade! JBL's are known to take a beating & are famous for their ability to play ridiculously loud. I used to crank that record through Radio Shack Mach 1's (two pairs), so with their 15" woofers the bass wasn't an issue...

@@wolf1977 JBL L 100's. Those kicked royal ass! I see a pair of those are going for over $2,000 now...sheesh.

@@benavich8 My Mach 1's from the 70's are still going strong although I only use them as surround speakers now in my secondary music setup. Never had a single issue with them...My mains are Counterpoints that I bought used close to 30 years ago, they're "lifetime" speakers
