Located at the edge of Assam, Dhubri is an entry point into Bangladesh. Its location has been a point of contention between the two countries. It is portrayed as a gateway for illegal immigrants. Until 1874, Dhubri was under the Koch Rajbongshi kings. Today, it is home to mostly Bengalis, especially Bengali Muslims.
Dhubri also faces the challenge of erosion that renders hundreds homeless, eating up homes, schools and even health facilities every year. However, change is difficult in a region that's battered by the fury of the Brahmaputra.
EastMojo's Editor-in-Chief Karma S Paljor travelled to Fakirganj, a village on the south bank of the Brahmaputra to provide a ground report on the apathies of the people in the region.

I did not expect this from EastMojo. As someone from Dhubri, I am well-acquainted with the community. This documentary appears to be biased. It fails to address important issues such as population distribution by religion, education levels, and most importantly, birth control among Muslims. The community’s focus on religion rather than overall societal development has contributed to their current situation. Politicians exploit them as a vote bank, leveraging religious sentiments to win elections, while people expect development in return, which is unfortunate. Few other districts in Assam are also affected by flood erosion, yet they are more developed than Dhubri. Selecting the right candidate requires thinking beyond religious affiliations, which can only be achieved through better education.

I have seen majority of muslim people living as below poverty.. But I don't know how they can afford to buy so much land in Assam.. In south salmara district assam there is a village named santipur now more than around 50 household but just 3 years ago not even single household was there. Like how??

They are called themselves as "Bhaatia" And it's community called "Bhaatia Community" And They were migrated from bhaati (downward) of East Pakistan or Purbo Bhongo Since Ahom kingdoms. They are indigenous people of Assam. Bhaatia hindu are primarily worship Hindu gods Bhaatia Muslim are primarily worship Allah as per their religion.

No one can stop erosion. Its a natural process. If the river erodes at one place then at the same time the soil in transported and deposited by the river at some other place.
