This has been an excellent series, organization is so important, each kit has a purpose and it's all contained. Thanks Dave.

Great video Dave. I have come to the realization that there is no such thing as the perfect kit, kits are a ever evolving thing as soon as you think you have it perfect you see something new or a new idea and we evolve again and again.
@thatrealba4 жыл бұрын
Modularity is the name of the game here. the mini kit system is something I have been using for a loooong time. Mini kit contents may not change much over spans of time, but the combinations of mini kits into modular kits is where this really shines. I would carry different things in different pouches, depending on where I live and where I would be travelling. Just like Dave used to talk about you pare down gear to smaller and lighter items depending on conveyance options. The more robust the conveyance, the more modular kits you can have, each with different mini kits. If simply day hiking away from a central camp, our rules are to let a single person never leave camp without the ability to shelter in place, overnight, with an injured purson. This could include the ability to stop arterial bleeding via mechanical or chemical means, the ability to give the food and clean water, basic cleaning and bandaging of wounds,and some type of shelter from the elenments. At camp there would be a more in depth aid kit with the ability to use IVs for dehydration and the abity to react properly to a compound fracture or to suture together a bad enough wound For backpacking without a central camp, all of that must be brought along, and not all in one cenrtral pack or bag. If that pack or bag falls off a cliff or gets knocked downstream, that single point of failure could esaily cost someone their life. I could go on and on. Would be happy to talk about it further, offline, if anyone is interested.

Enjoying this series Dave. One thing I would add to the hygiene kit though would be a few of these G-U-M flossers. The all-in-one floss attached to a plastic handle with a built in toothpick. They weigh nothing and I'd bet that if Nessmuk had access to these he'd have carried them. Being able to safely floss your teeth out there is a must!! Imho

I am a new comer to your Channel within the last month. I am from Canada. I have logged countless hours of videos on your channel as well as cpl’s corner and bearded green beret. I love micro kits. Just decided to get back into nature with minimal kits. Been carrying the kitchen sink for years camping and fishing. Love your videos and I love the micro kits organization. Just ordered your Scorpion HD as part of the Black Friday sales. Really looking into back packs and love you are doing a lot of reviews. Love the Duluth one but pricy for me. Anyway Love your videos.

Thanks again sir, my kit is getting much lighter and many more tools that weigh next to nothing, the “deuce of spades” the trowel seems laughable to most bushcrafters but I have carried one for a couple years now, it’s a trowel, a shovel and a spear with very little effort. Ditty bag is also a great thing, Mini kits are the way to go for me anyway. Thanks again, I have started the nessmuck audio book available here on KZbin as well.

Drill some holes in the deuce of spades to run cordage through it to make it easier to attach a stick for a longer handle. If you ever design an ultralight woodsman backpack I’ll be the first customer. It’ll probably need to be nylon instead of dyneema for better abrasion resistance since tools, hunting, fishing, trapping gear may be in it.

I found out how important it is of proper gear at the same time how important weight is when I backpacked the applachian trail in Virginia back in August. I went from packing for bushcraft to packing as light as I could get. It is definitely a learning curve , because I wanted to take everything I normally would take on short distance packing in and setting up camp to long distance trail hike. My main thing was to have the 10 c's no matter what I wasnt going to break away from those items , so on that i packed accordingly and built my pack around that concept. I managed to get my pack weight down to 18 pounds which at times was still to much weight being 53 years old 18 pounds felt like back in my army days of 60 or more pounds on my back lol. I appreciate your videos on these topics.

That is a nice kit you have in your backpack and that is what I did when setting up my backpack and I have to go through it once more and double check to make sure that I have removed all the items which isn't necessary. My EDC bag is setup the same way for short term trips out in the and I have the necessary items for each use and I included a solar panel in my backpack to charge my phone and it is probably the only optional item I have to carry with me.

Hey Dave, On a slightly different subject; I made your Pipe tee augur adapter, with the wood insert, yesterday. I used the black pipe tee and a piece of dowel from Home Depot. I works great. The dowel is kiln dried and is really hard wood, so it should last a long time. After making it I realized that I could have used a galvanized tee instead and saved a few bucks. Something to consider. ;-)

This is a great series! This is exactly how me and my friends camp/hike. We love learning the bushcraft skills but we aren't "bushcrafters"; we are campers and hunters. Unlike our purely hiking brethren, we don't go as light as possible, we go as light as practical (and still be safe, comfortable and have fun)! We will never own an oil cloth tarp, wool blanket or take a felling ax to the woods but we do adhere to the Ten Cs and take things that would make a lightnic loose their mind.

Thanks for another good vid. At the risk of repeating myself, I will say that what you are doing is not unlike what I have tried to do with my backpacking, bikepacking and general outdoors tramping for some time now. Being in the great outdoors is always good..........if you're prepared. Be well.

Lake Nessmuk near Wellsboro PA is managed for warmwater species and Catch and Release Lakes Program Regulations currently apply. The lake is named after “Nessmuk” (pen name of the famous outdoor writer and poet from the late 1800’s-George Washington Sears) who lived nearby. Diverse fishing opportunities can be found at Lake Nessmuk.
