The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) - a planet-scale array of eight ground-based radio telescopes forged through international collaboration - was designed to capture images of a black hole. In coordinated press conferences across the globe, EHT researchers revealed that they succeeded, unveiling the first direct visual evidence of a supermassive black hole and its shadow.
This 17-minute film explores the efforts that led to this historic image, from the science of Einstein and Schwarzschild to the struggles and successes of the EHT collaboration.

The first image ever of a Black Hole is the perfect example showing that *both theoretical-based models and reality actually match together* . In fact, this is what we simply call: SCIENCE! April 10th 2019, therefore *will always remain a huge milestone for collaborative science* , and more particularly for collaborative Astronomy 🌌 *Congratulations to EHT collaboration*

Yes with the best tool being all these different science institutions collaborating together to cross verify everything. It's not just astronomy but interdisciplinary sciences and engineering to make it all work together. This restores my faith in humanity and reinforces my respect for the scientific institutions.

False because relativity explain that inside a black hole space is infinite and time stop which is impossible because they release energy and evaporate one day or another. The only thing that match is the fact that stars which light can't escape exists, that's all. Our models never match with reality, they just get better over time

First clue it's a hoax, it's too blurry to make out what the objects are. It's actually a blurry picture of Phobos eclipsing the Sun. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raiooKykqd90sJI They would have taken a sharper picture if it was real, instead just used a really blurry stock photo. They can't do science, so they ended up doing fiction.

I'd say more of an historic set of confirmations for physics and astrophysics, but a real turning point in methods of observation for sure. They just proved what can be observed using a virtual radio telescope with an Earth-sized aperture, all without building a giant floating dish covering the Pacific Ocean or something equally as impossible. Just think of what else we might be able to see with this and similar techniques. I'm sure quite a few astronomers are salivating right about now.

Beauty?, it's just an orange ring round a black blot. Don't be so mesmerized. This is only stupid athiest theory where they feel they are getting closer to the questions about how universe began. The answer is right here on earth if they cared to look, that God created the universe and space is just a magnificent sky for us to praise God by gazing at his wondrous creation. Gazing with our naked eye rather than wasting billions on space exploration when we could use that money to feed the world's poor

On Monday July 1st 2019 at 6:57 PM a sum of 512 conspiracy theorists and guys who like to get angry about things they don't understand (= Dunning Kruger effect) dislikes this great documentary about one of the greatest achievements of man(kind). 😞 Luckily it has more than 18.000 likes which speaks for the intellectual capabilities among the 838,222 viewers as of the same date and time I already mentioned. 😏 In other words: Thanks European Southern Observatory (ESO) KZbin channel to put up this great short documentary. And a list of questions: To all the conspiracy theorists and guys (and gals) who spread anger and false theories, playing the enlightened ones without understanding how science actually works. - Do you want to feel like a Neo from Matrix, albeit a Neo falling for false mentors? - Why do you who refuse to understand the way modern science should be presented, likes to get angry instead of using this by now wasted energy to understand what you see? - Why don't you pay attention to the explanations in this video and learn by carefully listening what is explanatory computer animations and what's the actual pictures? Especially when one thinks that I as a German to whom English is the second language understood the overall picture and when was shown what, this should especially tell native English speakers something about their attention span. - Why do you accuse NASA of lying but fully ignoring that this documentary was hosted by a part of the European space programm and observation. - Why do you feel the need to spit out hatred and distrust on true authorities on science and research who earned their reputation (almost on par with the ancient Roman concept of Auctoritas) by learning for decades of their lives. - Can it be that you're against Einsteins discoveries because he is of a certain religion antisemites hates? - Can it be that you're against this video just because you're against women doing science stuff thus being misogynist? - Why do you conspiracy theorists and anti-science guys are so prone to use strong and violent language? - Aren't you eloquent enough to ask your questions or state your opinions in a polite and cultivated grown up manner? Well, just asking questions here. 🤔 And a call for: - Being proud to be a member of a species which has the ability to observe things so far away, a species which learned to overcome its natural limitation by ingenuity and intellect trumping over feelings and a backwater thinking. - Being proud that so manny people choses to cooperate to achieve a greater goal, to overcome old fashioned hate and mutual prejudices. - Being proud that they overcame all the diverse issues and problems by sheer will and cleverness. - Being aware that we live in such a great time of new discoveries, knowledge. Well, we might not colonize new continents anymore, but we can "conquer" worlds millions of light years away. - Being aware that we now live in a world full of knowledge, achievements, technology our ancestors 100 years ago would have considered a strange sureal fantasy, not even respected as science fiction anymore. So, again, thank you European Southern Observatory (ESO) KZbin channel for putting up this great video. 🤗

What we've achieved till this day is really unprecedented & what we can achieve further is unimaginable. We've seen a black hole now !!!!!! (doesn't matter whether it's a shadow) Amazing!!!!! Such collaborations should also be done for relatively nearby objects as well. Our observations will be refined to the greatest ever achieved !! I know it's costly but it'll unravel great mysteries for sure.

I think the most amazing thing about this is actually how smart all the people on this team are. The mathematics, electronics, computers, timing etc. It is easier for me to imagine the blackhole itself than to imagine being half as smart as these scientists. These peolple should be our societies rockstars for what they do. They're awesome!!

You know what will really make you cry? Homeless people living in bushes, eating out of trashcans, while a bunch of rich people waste billions on crap like this. They have to keep the lie going, if you found out you can't go into space you would be mad as hell. The reality is all of it is a lie, sure they sprinkle a tiny bit of truth in just to keep your interest, but it is mostly lies. No one is going anywhere, they just sent peoples imaginations into space. Why do you think they call it science fiction? Key word is fiction, it's not real.

@@waikintang8246 wayyy too many people involved. If that were true, the truth would've definitely come out. It's real, especially if you would think for a moment how many people that worked on this have spent their entire lives hoping to capture something like this.
