I can actually deal with them not having as much aggression as their earlier albums, and I love that they're very experimental with their last few albums, but to have THREE cover songs is a bit lazy. I also think what kills them is that Maria is too involved in creating a character for the band with imagery instead of delivering vocally. Maybe she cant hit those notes like she used to?
@tprdanielle4 жыл бұрын
I also think that she can't hit the notes anymore. That's why they have been using all these electronic stuff to cover her voice.
@all_the_good_names_are_gon684 жыл бұрын
Maria embracing her theatrics more than her vocals is nothing new. Their live shows have always involved outstanding theatrics and choreography but showcased very poor vocals (which is difficult for me to say considering that Maria has always been one of my favorite metal vocalists). Even with In-between and Black Wedding, I cannot confirm that Maria is still capable of singing like she used to. I, however, would argue about them incorporating electronic effects to mask Maria's vocals, as they've been doing it since Blood, which is arguably their heaviest album.
@Betta664 жыл бұрын
Ever hear of being “renegaded”? It’s a reference to the Jay-Z song featuring Eminem, and it’s used in rap to describe an artist who gets outdone by the guest feature(s). Simply put, on her own cover of We Will Rock You, Maria Brink got renegaded. For real, Lzzy Hale and Taylor Momsen were fucking vicious on their verses while Maria was a few decibels above a whisper. I actually like the album, but goddamn, Maria did herself no favors on that cover.
@sickofyournoise69594 жыл бұрын
Or she just voluntary chosed to let the two guest take more importance than her in this song. I find that each verse with each singer is cool, and i adore her screams in the song. She's not overshadowed in my opinion.
@criwall4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it was intentional, but it's a little jarring, especially when you know Maria have a very powerful voice. Was kind of the same with New year's days cover of Only happy when it rains, there's nothing wrong with Ash's vocals in that one, but when Lzzy start it's, well vicious is a very fitting word for it. Was happy that Taylor also delivered, hopefully she bring the same to the new TPR record coming later this year.

whole song is lazy and overdone. Find a more obscure cover and deliver a new take on it.

I still need to give it a listen... The In Between was actually my introduction to the band. (Yes, I did go back and listen to their older stuff. Didn't like anything before Blood... A little too 00's emo.) But I can definitely see the weakness in her voice. One of the things I grew to love about her vocals were their genuineness. How it didn't feel like she was just screaming her head off like her male counterparts in the industry. Specifically in Big Bad Wolf. You believe those fucking words and vocals. You FEEL what she's singing, and there are very few artists who have done that to me. If it's true that she sounds out of it... it will be truly disheartening.

I think this could have been a better solo album. The band disappeared for the most part throughout.

I think they've been on a steady decline since the one-two punch of Blood and Black Widow. Maria's ego has far surpassed her vocal talent at this point.

I just finished listening to the album and there is only one word I can describe it: Lazy I agree with Luke, it does hurt, I love ITM and I get excited when I hear a new album is coming out, but when the first half of the album has covers, that's a huge red flag for me. This album had nothing to grab my attention, nothing really stuck out and I just felt towards the end, this is a band that has sadly lost some steam.
@DeathMachineJoe4 жыл бұрын
Thought this album was pretty "meh" as well. I'm one of the few apologists who likes quite of bit of ITM's earlier material while liking select songs off a everything post-Star-Crossed Wasteland. The band really needs to stop working with Kevin Churko. He's produced every one of their albums since 2008's "The Dream" and the band really needs a producer that can light the fire within them again. Not rely on Churko's overproduced drum sampling and always slathering Maria's voice in reverb all the time. Hunting Grounds was really the only song I liked off of Mother and if they want to do a bunch of covers, just release them separately from the main albums. I don't get why they had to slap "Fly Like an Eagle" on there especially as the opening track. It feels very lazy. I hope that the next album feels more like a band and less like a Maria Brink solo record.

This album was supposed to be out nearly six months ago, and when the album got delayed, that's when I started getting nervous about how it would turn out. Crazy that Maria doesn't sound stronger, because this was supposed to be a very personal album. Maybe something didn't work out. Pity. I loved In This Moment from the moment I saw the Black Widow review (might have been the first Rocked video I watched) so it hurt when I was underwhelmed by the singles. But I'll give the album a listen for myself.

I thought the same thing when I saw them open with this droning boring song last summer. How is Maria's ego so big that she can't recognize this isn't how you start a set at a festival when you only get 20 minutes?

I don't understand the bad comments or the mediocre review !!! This is a killer album !!! Not one bad track on the whole thing !!! Everything is very well put together, and the songs flow from one to another !!! If you judge a singer by the way they can scream all the time, then you're missing the point !!! I think this album shows a lot of maturity !!! Her screams are much more strategically placed, and everything on the album had a lot of thought in the process !!! Black Widow is their best offering and Mother runs a close second !!! I love it guys !!! Keep doing what you are doing !!! I can't wait to see what all goes to video !!!

I will hear it this week though 4.) from the sounds of it, it seems like its a singles album. 5.) is it Imagine this moment or in this dragon? (did it get bit by the ID?)

I recommend the first three albums. The Dream (their second album) shows Maria's REAL voice without the special effects. I saw them a lot during their first three albums, lost count actually. After Blood is when I stopped listening to them, though out of all the new albums Blood is by far the best one. Friends of mine said that they don't even play of their old school songs and now they will never see them again and the choreographed bs gets old too.

I've been a fan since their MySpace days and saw them when they played in shitty venues and bars but those were the best times to see them. Maria screaming her heart out, going out into the crowds for a circle pit around her. The live shows were ALWAYS about the music no theatrics or backup dancers or smoke to where you barely see the stage. The In This Moment that I grew up with is dead and gone and it sucks because their music helped me through so much shit. I tried to see them live but they never play any songs from their first three albums. It's like they are trying to erase that past when without us hardcore fans they would have been broken up after A Star-Crossed Wasteland. Blood is heavier than this pile of trash and maybe they should go back to their ROOTS or just give up.

"Born in flames" is one of my favorite songs in this album, so i can't understand how it could be "instantly forgettable". I enjoyed as hell two of the three singles and even if i will take few time to like the end of the album, I love the fact that they chose to put more "soft" songs, because it wasn't the case in Ritual. I agree that 14 titles but one intro, one interlude and three cover is a bit disappointing (even if i adore the Queen's cover), but this is an interesting album. They're trying new things, and it stills in the style that i like from them. I'm not a fan of their albums before Blood, too metalcore and heavy for me. It's a shame because I had high hopes for what ITM was going to follow up with but there was just so many underwhelming tracks and did they really have to go there with 'We Will Rock You'? Done by one of the most recognized classic rock bands of all time? You typically have to be at a certain level to make covers off of great songs and In This Moment certainly wasn't up to that level at all. I only liked maybe one or two songs from this album as a whole, with 'As Above, Far Below' coming close to what we could have had more out of in this release.
