James Strainic, MD, Director, Fetal Heart Program and pediatric cardiologist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and the Congenital Heart Collaborative in Cleveland, Ohio; teamed up with student animator Michael White from the Cleveland Institute of Art to produce an animation video showcasing how fetal aortic valvuloplasty is performed in utero using ultrasound guidance and a catheter-based approach to gain access to the fetal heart, subsequently opening the aortic valve using an inflated balloon. In this video, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) is defined and a step-by-step demonstration of the procedure is given.
