In Which I do Not Understand the Character - Builder - Brotato: Abyssal Terrors

First look at the brand new DLC for Brotato, Abyssal Terrors, which just launched into beta on Steam!

some misunderstandings to clear up 1. the puffer fish will shoot 4 shots if you kill it with melee weapons, 8 shots if killed with ranged weapons 2. builder turret copies the BASE stats of the strongest weapon. so items that improve the weapons stats will not be applied, like attack speed and damage. 3. the towers wait till one of those big bulky guys walks in and it'll transform and then teleport away, it does this 3 times and it'll become a mini boss 4. there is a huge emphsis with Damage type and Weapon type this time around. damage type is based on what stat the damage scales with, weapon type is the actual range type it is. this will be important to know for a few new characters like the diver and chef.

Interesting detail for not mentioned in other comments is that you get experience for all the leftover materials that your turret eats. You can see your level bar spiking at the end of each wave.

Not sure if you’ve figured this out already, but here are some details you were wondering about. At 3:50 the enemies you were getting have armor, reducing you damage to 1. At 9:15, the pufferfish explodes into 8 when killed by ranged weapons and 4 when killed my melee (pretty sure on this one). Both are significant nerfs to ranged weapons interestingly. I’ve had little success with SMG in particular so far

I just finished first try romantic with SMG and its was smooth as silk exept that part when i faced lobsters before having any +flat damage. Their armor seems to be flat too, thus its not really so degrading to your offence capability - exept early game with really low dmg weapons.

Imho the slingshot is an almost guaranteed win. The turret inherits the stat rate gain from your weapon, as well as other projectile qualities. so the turret will fire slingshot projectiles. It is also important to obtain a cursed weapon because it will have insane stat gain statistic. Finally, one must time when to leave material so the turret gains an extra projectile. Oh, and it basically means that your weapons will never be good because of the massive damage penalty. Edit: key point: the 75% dmg nerf does not apply to engineering. The turrets damage is as follows: it inherits the stat perchentage rate from your 'best' weapon and applies that to engineering Edit2: the turret is not affected by the minus 75% dmg nerf. In short: a cursed slingshot with high engineering stat is an auto win

I saw on the discord everyone just said take the revolver and level it up all the way and let turret carry. But a multi shot built in pierce javelin with 400% attack speed is too funny.

I’m fairly certain it only goes off the ranged weapons base stats, not the extra speed, damage, etc that modify the actual weapon.

I have found that having a maxed level slingshot and building up its atk speed is an awesome way to go

I found that you can mostly ignore the material based turret stats. You'll max out the projectiles just through missed materials and while the other stat boosts are good I found that having a good weapon set all round was better overall. In fact the turret's wave clear capabilities helped to keep the field open while I focused my own damage on the elites.

I just used the shredder the whole way, 4x built in explosive pierce shots where engineering makes the low base damage irrelevant makes for a relatively easy run. I first tried revolver but got no pierce or bounce and died to a lvl 15 horde which annoyed me greatly.

the switch to SMG did give the turret more damage, if you look at the amount of damage it dealt it was about 10k more on round 20

I feel like ignoring the builders turret for the first 3 waves and picking up all materials is the best strategy. Then as you get your weapons and harvesting in a decent spot, avoid all materials onward utilizing harvesting for shops.

I think the way I’m gonna try to play this one is have one high level ranger weapon and then 5 hands! That way I get more harvesting and can push enemies into the builder turret!

During wave 5, when the turret hit the guys that release projectiles when hit by bullets didn't release any when attacked by the builder turret.

constructs don't usually trigger the floater projectiles, only shots from your equipped ranged weapons!

I think it's the structure range causing the attack speed to be slower than the actual SMG.

The issue is it only uses the base stats of the weapon (so the .133 is because that's just the normal attack speed of an smg), and doesn't include the structure attack speed in the tooltip. Range increases only slow attack speed for melee weapons (and usually only an extremely tiny amount)

Something I like to do with Builder, is grab a Gecko or two. No more. It balances out the material without too much effort.

My takeaway on this character is that late game once turret is maxed you just want to stay within it's range and collect the materials. Skirting the edges and having to ninja dodge seems unnecessary.

There are tons different ways to build da builder :D I know some prefer 5 melee+1 ranged, some prefer avoiding chaos and some embracing it, and there are differences in pattern of picking up materials or not. My favorite run was corrupted minigan+5 revolvers, unfortunately i blundered with touhou part at 20th wave, but it was fun while it last.

I’m wondering if there’s some sort of damage reduction with the final bosses, when I played builder I had a lvl 4 obliterator and the turret killed the wave 17 boss in like 3 shots but then took almost 25 secs to kill the final bosses. Could just be scaling or something but seems weird

Yeah, having revisited the character I've been liking one ranged weapon plus bricks - they give you waveclear while your turret is coming online, then turn into money later!

You fed the turret way too much after legendary upgrade. Crit scaling with Pile of Books otherwise it stays at the weapons base crit. Unlucky weapons too.

It works! It gives you max hp (though it's imo a pretty tough run since the scepter isn't otherwise a great weapon for the turret)

try out captain. its the worst char in my life. 5 hours of the same gameplay and 0 progress. you can choose between one hand without attack speed or jack without boss damage and exp :)
