My particular brand of synesthesia is Color-Sound-Texture, so a sound has a distinct color and texture associated with it that I can see in the air or sometimes feel on my skin, and when I touch things, I will get flashes of color and sound in my mind. And it wasn't really a shock to me when I found out, so much as a "oh, cool. I have this thing! That's why I get weird looks when I say the school chairs sound like grey screeching

Yes. THIS. One of my favorite things about these covers that NSP has done is how Danny's voice really makes you FEEL the song. The emotion is all laid out for the listener to experience full-strength. Danny Did You Know does that for me as well, but the cover songs definitely hit harder than their usual material. :P
