Vignettes work by darkening the edge of an image so that the eye moves away from it and back into the main part of the image. A compound vignette works by using additional methods to achieve this eye-bouncing effect, including adjustment of saturation and sharpness. The reverse effect can also be used, for example by sharpening and brightening only those areas which you want to attract the eye. Here's an easy method to achieve this effect.
