8 Oct 2021 with English subtitles. In his inaugural lecture, Lucas Noldus talked about his fascination with human and animal behavior and the possibilities that technology offers us to study, understand and influence that behavior. There are several reasons for wanting to measure behavior in humans and animals. For example, knowledge of the behavior of parasitic wasps helps us in biological control of insect pests, and measuring the eating behavior of herbivores is important for the development of resistant crops. But knowledge of behavior is also useful in the medical domain. For instance, mice and rats are experimental animal models for neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
