As a fixed wing flyer of many years, I fancied having a go at a quad. I followed your build of the SpeedyBee quad and was quite impressed with the results, but couldn’t get along with BetaFlight after using iNav for so long. This video was just the guidance I needed to swap over. I followed it to the letter and today had a terrific few flights under iNav. Many thanks and keep up the good work.

@@shanemshort It was purely the case of I can’t be bothered to learn a new system. Both systems are good, but I know iNav very well so don’t see any reason to use Betaflight. I’m only a casual flyer, not a flippy, spinny one so basic functionality is ok for me.

I've just converted my first. TBH I'd rather throw it against a wall or go back to BF lol iNAV seems so hard to tune, my Poshold isn't right and drifts hard, flying is vibrating something shocking, movements feel clunky and not smooth at all like BF. I'll keep playing with it

@@TurboThailand Yeah, I had a go at this project a while ago and sadly had the same experience. Pos hold would seem to work at first, but then started an oscillating toilet-bowl maneuver that got worse and worse until I flipped it out of pos hold. RTH had the same problem, it would start to go home, but the closer it got to the landing point the worse the toilet bowling effect got. I never solved it, never got my inav quad to fly right. Any luck on your end?

Using INAV or Arducopter , these features have been available on these kinds of quads for many years. It's taken Betaflight a while to get GPS rescue to where it is now, but the lack of compass use means performance issues with wind... Happy flying

Very helpful as I'm thinking about moving my 8s X-Class to iNav. To be fair though, I am very lost when it comes to filtering and tuning as well as how to setup vtx tables in iNav. I fully understand that you want to cater to a wide audience with these more widely applicable videos, however sometimes I'd wish for a more deep dive kind of style. No criticism, youre doing fantastic. But maybe when it comes to tuning, a throughout guide from you would be awesome, as your way of explaining things methodically is way better than watching random people talking with semi-knowledge. So, just in case youre running out of content (which Im convinced youre not), I'd be very happy if you tackled how to tune filters and PIDs also with recommendations (I know you have a video on that but its very dated and I couldnt extract much from it/use it for my build) and as mentioned secondary, the thing on how to implement VTX tables in INAV would also be interesting. a very good video showing the possibilities offered by Inav with GPS, but I miss one function that was added in version 7, which is maintaining the speed, direction and altitude preferred for longer flights. I have just assembled the drone myself on the same frame, on SpeedyBee 7V3 with GPS from WS and I am waiting for VTX Avatar 4K, but I am still setting everything up because the weather in Poland is as bad for flights as in yours 😉 PS. This isn't a DJI flying camera. If that's what you are used to, then these will need a little more practice. You can set them up to maintain a height but these are very different beasts... Happy flying

It is one of those things you need to learn to manage as you fly. You can add a LIDAR but it isn't foolproof and height and thorttle management is a still a new pilot needs to learn IMHO. Best of luck!

Every setup step I used for the test flight is shown... No need to add ALTHOLD. If you are using only 6 channels then you could look at some mixing for CH6 to give you more than the three positions. That'll allow you to have extra things setup. See my Video on how I setup my radio for INAV.. Happy flying

Ok ,thanks for your setup, so ive a 5" quad, all has gone well, but the bit i cant get is that ez tune expo i have set to 0 and the rotation for 840°s ,this emulates my betaflight actual rates, now the problem is that in acro mode, ez tune, this has way to much travel before i hit my yaw ,im use to having rates on actual yaw really close to center, ie betaflight 250 840 .20 So i have had to go into my tx16s inputs and give -50 expo on my yaw axis and this feels ok, am i missing something, thanks for your help❤🫡

@Painless360 thanks my friend, ive just reflashed betaflight 4.5.1, tbh, i watch all the vids anyway and have been messing with drones since arducopter imu shield, now heres the thing, i kinda got it to hold position, rtl, and my acro was just so sloppy only on the yaw axis, i had to move the stick 1/4 to make it yaw, 0 expo on eztune and i couldnt seem to find a way to alter the rotation speed, as as soon as you come out of eztune, which is easy, you cant alter other settings. I know that the radio input expo doesnt effect the ouput with expo, therefore, messing the fc up with a weird curve! BUT! , Ive just put Betaflight back on it, it was more of a novaltee than anything. Thanks for your fast reply, you get up early too, happy flying geezer!🙏🫡♥️

Having just done this process myself I did hit a bit of an issue. INAV doesn't have the option to re-map motors. I had the FC board facing backwards with the ESC facing forwards for convenience of power wiring. I needed to actually re-pin the ESC to FC tiny ribbon cable, which was blooming awkard.

I added a GPS and compass module to my 3" quad that was originally on BF. Installed INAV 6 and have had a lot of fun with POH and RTH features. Did not get around to waypoints yet. But might just upgrade it to INAV 7. Does INAV have something like the new BF which is the EZ land feature - i.e. AirMode is turned off automagically ?

Did you get the CC pad to work for camera control on your SpeedyBee F405 v4 flight controller I can’t get it to work I have a runcam with a ground and menu connection and I attach it to black to ground and menu wire to the CC pad but when I first plug the lipo in the camera menu comes up then disappears after about 5 seconds but none of the stick movement work at all while it is showing and then I can’t get the menu to appear again.

@@Painless360I solved the problem. It is imperative to install the compass according to the INAV instructions, namely at a distance of at least 5 cm from the video transmitter and power cables. My compass was 3 cm from the O3 unit video transmitter. When I moved the GPS module with the compass 5 cm away from the video transmitter by 5 cm, lo and behold, the compass worked perfectly. Return to home and hold position now works reliably and very accurately. Included a 3km return home, the drone landed 1.5 meters from the take-off point. If you don’t fly far, it lands 20-70cm from the take-off point. INAV 7.1.0 is great.

Because of that use of a compass, it is far more reliable in wind. It's why professional systems use a compass as well as a GPS for autonomous flight. Betaflight uses a neat workaround to avoid using a compass but it isn't foolproof. The compass unlocks many additional benefits. See m.youtube.com/watch?vpfrNsW5s-cs for more detail. Happy flying

From the INAV docs: 'Position hold requires GPS, accelerometer and compass sensors. Multirotor requires barometer, unless inav_use_gps_no_baro is enabled. Flight modes that require a compass (POSHOLD, RTH) are locked until compass is properly calibrated. When activated, this mode will attempt to keep copter where it is (based on GPS coordinates). From INAV 2.0, POSHOLD is a full 3D position hold. Heading hold in this mode is assumed and activated automatically.'

I have a question, i just built an inav 6" on speedybee f7 v2 FC with GPS on hover test, hovers fine and yaw is fine but pitch and roll are very unresponsive, needs lots of stick input for little movement. Any help would be appreciated. Everything is at default other than having calibrated the imu and compass, setup crossfire RX, no video at present.

Not all GPS units are as good as others... Modern M10 units tend to find more, faster.... Best of luck

I am flashing my SpeedybeeF405wing with iNAV 7.0.0 after it is done flashing and I connected I select airplane with tail it saids “device: Saving default settings” and picture changes to a airplane in the background but it keeps running saying “Saving Default Settings” but doesn’t finish. What is wrong? I just click on the “X” in the upper right hand corner of iNAV get out then startup iNAV again and connect to the FC and everything seems fine is that ok? Please help me I don’t know how to ask a question about iNAV in “GetHub Home” It is doing the same thing with the spdybee F405 V4 and Matek fc. When I get out and come back in setup menu is all green. I test fly it and it seems fine.

I’m using iNAV 7.0.0 and flashing 7.0.0 SpeedyBee FC new and I tried it on my laptop and my desktop and it does the same thing on both. It even does it when I try flashing fc version 6.1.0

it does nt make sense to mount the gps module inclined...the Inav Pos Hold function works at the most time, when the quad is hovering...

Lots of perceived pros and cons for both level and inclined mounts. Both actually work well in both positions so it's actually a moot point... Happy flying!

@@Painless360 I flashed INAV based on your video. Thank you! But I can't calibrate the GEP-M10DQ compass. I have calibrated it many times, but it still does not show the North correctly and is constantly shifting slightly in the configurator, although the drone itself is stationary on the table. I have already installed the GPS module horizontally, everything is the same. What GPS do you have in the video?

i always have trouble flashing my fc from BF to INAV. it always comes up with a connect error. ive installed the proper drivers but still not working. it works wen i connect to BF. do you have any vids on dis issue
