This is a way more better solution than the disarm_kill_switch option set to off that i used till this moment. This is so useful! I'm quite sure I've had a couple mysterious BAD crashes due to rearm "safety" conditions not being met and also throttle down auto disarm features being activated during random soaring sessions. I wasn't aware of these features. I've been trying to figure this out for almost a year. I wonder if this should be a click of a button option in the modes tab or advanced tuning tab of the INAV configurator. I wonder if a video on all the ways a model could be disarmed and how to modify those settings would be useful for the community. Thanks so much for all your work!

Well I accidently disarmed in flight, and did not realise I did it. It was a really old radio I had not used FPV before with only 1 three position switch so arm and RTH were very close and not in the normal spot. Also there was no verbal feedback from the radio. I selected RTH to demo to a mate at our destination/max intended range and thought it did not work, so thought wrong switch, did not even think about arm. When I noticed I had no current draw my head thought the motor or speedy had failed and I started looking for a landing/crash site easily identifiable on google maps (group of trees, well defined fence lines etc.) which worked and I recovered the aircraft. I had hit RTH with all my fumbling but it obviously did not work being disarmed. I was using a DJII air unit and only by luck noticed it was not recording (turns off when I disarm) so pushed record on the goggles and recorded the goggle view which was the only reason we could find where it was on google maps. I still did not make the disarm connection as my main focus was now putting it down where I could find it. Disarm would have also dropped TX power to 25mw so I don’t know how I maintained picture as long as I did. As I don’t normally drop the throttle until closer to home I would have preferred to have had it happen closer to home and not deal with it when it happens as per the video but know where he is coming from. If I was further out Disarm with DJI the way I set it would have resulted in loss of video due to dropping power, RTH would not have worked and all would have been lost. There are many lessons learned the hard way here but I am going to get a gated switch and fit to this radio if I continue to use it. The ones you have to lift to move. I may consider it with my Taranis also but that would have have announced “engine off” or “disarmed” and I could have sorted it straight away as per the video advice. PS had not done this arming safety setting but have now. Thanks.
@MrD4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you were pretty lucky. Fortunately the arming safety programming in the video would allow you to instantly rearm. I don’t have the DJI system, but know the OSD isn’t as fully featured as the iNav standard OSD. If you disarm on the standard OSD, you get a flight summary screen. I think the biggest problem with DJI in this instance could be the not knowing you’re armed or disarmed. Hopefully they will add more OSD elements in the near future.

@MrD4 жыл бұрын
You can always take a dump of the settings on 2.4. That way if you have issues, you can go back to what you had easily. It may be worth a try for the extra info you’ll get on the OSD. Not sure if it would sat disarmed though, as its more a summary page rather than a system message. I’m not 100% on that.

@@MrD Thanks but board only has 2 uart's. someone did a hack to use a soft serial (I think) into an extra uart. not sure of the technical aspects other than it was specific to that version of firmware and it worked. It let me connect the GPS DJI unit and other bits I needed to the boar. If there is a similar hack for the 2.6 version I may try it. The reason I was using the old transmitter is it had a old chain link on it for the extra range. If I went back to 2.4 or used TBS I could use my Taranis. Thanks

Great video Darren I crashed a c1 chaser years ago by accident disarming during flight, just wondering if using altitude instead of speed would be better? Maybe 15 or 20 feet thanks again
@MrD Жыл бұрын
Not really. 3D speed would be the best choice. If you’re flying, you’re always going to be above stall speed. Which is always going to be above human walking/running speed. So its a safe value. However, there is a chance that you could accidentally disarm below whatever altitude you set. It would need to be at least 5m. The lower you are, the quicker you’d need to re-arm before ending up in the ground. You may be too low. But using speed rather than altitude, at least you get a chance.

Hi Darren. I am trying to implement this in I-Nav 4.1.0. It seems that the rudder right is no longer required? I only get "Armed" to stay on after I toggle the Arm switch 11 times in < 10 seconds, no rudder. The haptic comes on too! Simple right rudder + Arm does not work. It all goes away after I disarm for a few seconds. I tried with and without the programing enabled and it makes no difference. Have things changed since I-Nav 2.6 ?? Thanks for these video's !

Hi Dave, I’ve replied to your PM. But just to make note here. The main thing wrong here is the bypass not working in manual. It should. Once you activate the bypass, it stays active until the FC is reset; by a save and reboot (save in CLI) or power off and on.

What happens when you lose the gps fix? INAV cannot figure out the ground speed in that case.
@goku4454 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was thinking maybe Altitude with the built-in baro set to something like 5m minimum was a good option.
@MrD4 жыл бұрын
If you lose GPS fix, the model would simply behave like this is not enabled. It would be an error, but an error on the side of safety. I feel like mid air GPS loss is so unlikely to happen, that the speed is a pretty safe option. I did think about altitude. But I have seen inaccuracies in reported altitudes. Plus, if you fly below the launch point, it won't work either.
@avsaase4 жыл бұрын
@@MrD I've never had a gps loss myself but I have read it sometimes happens. Makes me wonder what happen if you have vtx power as a function of distance to home and you loose the gps fix. Would be a bummer if it then switches to minimum power. Do you happen to know this?
@MrD4 жыл бұрын
@@avsaase that is another good point. In fact, the VTx switching is more critical. I don’t know if such a variable exists in the programming, but it would be good to be able to test that the data is working. If not, you could add a fallback. For example, with OpenTX you can do a test on the telemetry such as !RSSI.
@MrD4 жыл бұрын
I've just had a look and the best test at the moment would be the GPS Sats. You could test for GPS Sats < 6, if so put the VTx to full power.

Not as easily. As you can see in my demo, you’d still need to lower the throttle. I guess you could do that as you yaw right. But it’s something else you have to think about, in that situation. With this simple little bit of programming, you don’t have to think at all. Just re-arm 🙂

Thanks Mr. D! I have accidentally disarmed an airplane twice. A couple of summers ago I was able to glide almost to the shore of a lake. Waded to recover. I did it again today fumbling for the volume control. Luckily I was able to glide to a snowmachine trail. There are several feet of snow on the ground, and if I hadn't made the snowmachine trail, I'd have had to go home for skis. What flight parameter would you base this on for a quadcopter? If accidentally disarmed, it wouldn't have ground speed. I fly off hilltops, so altitude might fail. Do you see a problem with using Home Distance? Maybe a quad would hit the ground before I could react anyway.
