Superb acting from all of the cast including John Woodvine as Pontius Pilate. The flavour and political intrigue of the time are captured excellently.

I have read so many times this "book within the book". The mystery and intrigue is perhaps not 100% captured in this movie, but shows what Bulgavok writes and is a very respectable piece of work. Pilate and Afranius actors are particularly brilliant. What really captures me and therefore I see eternal in this part of the Master and Margarita is its simplicity: There was a man, at first sight irrelevant, that was sentenced to death in Judea. The course of the story then shows that this man's speech and philosophy had arrived to such a grade of influence that even officials of the Roman army sought revenge for Judas' treason, banding together with local followers. We know that comes after. Though dead, his footprint was indelible, for his words were well captured by his fanatic followers, and filled with hope so many souls that it easily propagated. None of us will never know what happened around 2000 years ago in Judea with this man called Joshua Ga-Nozri, but I do believe that Bulgakov's view is very close to how it could have occurred. Maybe it was as simple as we can see in the movie, which, in my opinion, increases the greatness of Jesus Christ.

I'd be very interested to know what thoughts and reflections brings to those who have read the book and also found this "Incident in Judea" a revealing source.

5 tomes for me i did mark the pages concerning Jesus and Pilâtes so that whenever i felt the need i could easily access my favorite lines . This went really too far for me at point that at 26 years old i decided that this would be the real OG like they say nowadays. The part was so logic to me that started preaching it to whoever was ready to open his mind and change perspective . 56 this year i have succeded tin putting religion behind me , i mean any religion . But i'd always respect those who believe because therf was a time when i was them ... ☮️❤☯️

BEAUTYFULL !!!! 👹🔱🤴🏻🧔🏽♀️✨️ 💯 7:20 : just before you start , take a moment to enjoy listening to "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones . If you are not familiar with the british accent specially Mick Jagger's then find the song with its lyrics. That would serve as an intro to the story ❤😊👍 There was a time when i attempted to create the perfect sountrack to listen to while reading the book , i ended up with only two Sympathy F.T.Devil and Fleewood Mac's Rihannon 📻🎶🎵

This is the first thing I saw Mark Rylance in. He is a brilliant actor and well deserved that Oscar.

Supurb acting from all of the cast, especially the actor Mark Rylance, who portrayed Yesua Ha-Nostri & the actor who portrayed Pontius Pilate, John Woodvine, as told by Woland & the Master & Margarita In Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "the Master & Margarita" An Awesome movie!! ❤❤❤

I think this movie is a very good version. Excellent Pilate's robust figure and voice, and its perfect opposite is Yeshua.

I remember taping it off channel 4 when first shown in Eater 1991. I've got it somewhere but it is a bad, bad copy. First time I saw Mark Rylance, and I never forgot him.

It's not bad, but why won't the Americans make The Master and Margarita movie, using the whole of the novel as script ? The Russians did, in a 10 episodes miniseries in 2005, available with English translation on youtube. Also not bad, though somewhat lacking in the quality of the special effects

Baz Luhrman is going to make it into a film.

Americans will not be able to convey, nor will the international audience be able to understand, the absurdity, the horror and the humor of the work done by the author living in Stalinist Russia, I'm afraid. And it has nothing to do with visual effects. He will succeed if he realizes the main theme of the work - the eternal striving of a human being for freedom. All our life we live in shackles forever dreaming of casting them off. Bortko managed to convey that idea quite successfully. The mini-series isn't without flaws, yet the atmosphere created in it is enchanting and the score is brilliant!
