A very intense and poised movement for traditional string quartet and a perfect antidote to those who say that there's no room for this form any more. Exceptional handling of pace, colour and texture.

+ComposerInUK Why would such an absurd and baseless claim require an 'antidote' at all? Isn't it much easier to just ignore those eternally-bored _PoMo_ types?

cleomagoolando You're probably right, cleo... I just get riled sometimes :)

That is also very much due to the JACK Quartet's amazing attention to all of pieces they perform. They could take a mediocre piece and turn it into something special.

Not to say this piece isn't still incredibly well constructed

Some of the textures remind me of Ligeti at times, but a very original sound palette always seeks to bubble through. Gorgeous piece of music!

I feel like if you have to explain the idea to your audience in the program notes in order for it to be of any value, the piece itself is not valuable. Now that is not to say that THIS piece is not valuable without knowing it's derived from Bach and all that, because the piece is quite atmospheric, but I find it pretentious when people "justify" their pieces, when really it should be in the music. If all value is relying on a reference, that you HOPE the audience gets, then what about those who dont? Then the piece is just tone-colors, and not very interesting ones at that... I think I've heard this piece more times than I can count written by other composers.
