I am from Incirlik, Adana. If you were there before 2004 that place was like paradise. Now all good restaurants like Mujdat, and red union restaurants are closed. If you ever go out to moonlight restaurant, it is a good restaurant. Ask them for special tea. It is free drink. Hopefully you can make a Turkish friend who can take you around to Adana.

About a year later I met all three of them in person while TDY to Tehran, Iran at the Tehran Hilton while they were on their around the world good will tour! It's a small world when you are in the US Air Force, I retired in1981 with 20 years .

I lived in that housing back in 1988-1990. I can see the layout was similar to mine but upgraded. My dining area was on the other side of the kitchen wall and it was like a little nook that looked out on the patio. My backyard was looked out to the Alley and I could smell the food. BP Restaurant and The Red Onion were the popular places to eat at the time. Stay safe out there.

Much nicer housing than we lived there, (1974-1977) compliments of the USAF. (Father) I graduated from HS there and at that age I didn't really appreciate the history in the area. Of course, it's a completely different environment now. Check out the many old castles. Mersin was also a nice little train ride. Be safe and enjoy as much as you can!

I ran across this video because I searched for "Incirlik." I was stationed there for 18 months from '66 thru '67. Let me tell you about the housing I had: An open bay barracks in a Quonset hut. Who how why and what I gotta ask about your housing. WOW. I did pedal a bike around though. Rode it from "home" to Adana one time. What did I do there? Same question occurs to me about you!

There used to live many American families in Adana, not all could live on Base so many had to live all over Adana. This was 60 yrs ago. On Incirlik Air Base they had a housing area mostly for officers and a trailer area. Many Europeans were employed on Base. We were from Germany and my husband worked for the Tumpane Company on Base. They even had a bus from Incirlik AB runing hourly into town to the airport there and a place called Yesil Everler were many Americans and Europeans had rented houses. Adana at that time had only a population of about 500.000.

I used to drive to & from Adana to the base 6 days a week, it amazed me how the 4-lane divided highway the US paid to have built was used, they drove both ways on it making it two 2 lane parrel highways with two-way traffic on both!

Was stationed there in early 1960’s. I was just a grunt so found myself living in an open bay Quonset Hut. The latrine/shower was in a separate hut. As for transportation we had shoes/boots to walk in. Left Turkey and went in to Athens. no base, lived on the economy. Greece was fantastic duty.
@Micah-jb2hj5 жыл бұрын
Was stationed there 82 - 83 and the new base housing was finished recently while there. Before that families lived in quonset huts! Being unaccompanied I spent my year there in one of the dormatories. Guess housing is being used by single assignments now since families are excluded there.

Reminds me of the joke "Someone asked the question "what would you do if you found a scorpion in your tent?" to members of different branches of the military, and these are the responses he got. Army said, "I'd step on it." The Marine said, "I would crush it with the heel of my boot." The Ranger said, "I'd smash its head, cut off its tail and eat it." Then Air Force said, "I would call room service, tell them to take it away, then ask why there is a tent in my hotel room."" Nice living situation for sure. Glad you made it over safe and I hope it goes fast but that you all still enjoy your locations, though separate, as much as you can. I just got my first base assignment, headed to Vance AFB for pilot training which fortunately is only 2.5 hours from OU and my girlfriend but that in it's self will be a transition so I can't imaging this one for y'all! I'm sure I'll be asking for advice in a few years on how it all works out!
