Dr Nandita talks about the barriers to inclusive education and how using her model of Heart-Head-Hands we can overcome these barriers to ensure that every child, irrespective of its learning disabilities can be educated in the same schools. She says Inclusive Education is 'In-possible' citing examples from her 25 years practice in developmental and behavioral pediatrics. Dr. Nandita is a pediatrician with an experience of 25 years in developmental and behavioural pediatrics. She is the Director of the Sethu Centre for Child Development & Family Guidance, where a multidisciplinary team of professionals help children challenged by disability or conditions that affect their learning and behaviour, by harnessing their development. She believes that every child has strengths, which can play a huge role in helping them rise above their difficulties.

I am so glad that Dr. Nandita did this TED talk to reach out to the world ... The great work she is doing is one of the greatest services to mankind... PRAISE will be a very small act and word (just '6' characters ) to acknowledge her efforts... For me She is a National Hero and should be titled with the first example of word 'SHERO' (Upcoming word to indicate female Hero) - in the dictionary. Best WIshes and I will not be surprised at all on the day when she will be awarded the highest civilian award by the President of India or for that matter Global awards towards highest dedication in her filed...

Great inspiration by Dr. Nandita. Very touching and educative success stories I can share in my context Uganda. The challenge and take home for me is how the huge body of laws, policies and other guidelines can change the negative trend of stopping the perpetrators causing discrimination against the children with disabilities. The solution is make the Head, heart and hands positive in terms of policies, philosophies and practices to support these children. Bravo Dr. Nandita

Its beautiful speech along with inclusion in school we need special educators also to be appointed to guide the children in higher classes. Schools need to equip themselves with that. Esp for Maths and English children with aspergers, autistic and other neurological issues....need separate attention for those classes. I totally agree inclusion is needed, teachers, staffs should have that awareness and acceptance. It helps the students to understand, accept children who has visual, physical or neurological difficulties and this experience will help them to create a better society when they grow.

Such an eyeopener for the people, amazing speech, Appreciate your efforts for these kids, I am glad we met in 2018, inclusion is very much important, its normal here (Dubai) and no school can reject the child with special needs, schools have whole active department for these kids but it seems inclusion is very difficult in India, but things are changing, we all should support inclusion and these kids can do wonders and they deserve the same treatment like normal kids.

Tejaswi Maidam you completely missed the whole point of her talk. Those trained in teaching disabled kids would work in general education accommodating disabled kids WITH abled kids. Inclusion is a human right.

It is completely true that mainstream schools refuse to give admission to children with special needs. I have faced this challenge my son has LD and was refused admission by the so called big schools in gurgaon.

That is extremely irrational. Such schools shouldn't be allowed to exist. It is their thoughts that creeps into their student's mind. This vicious cycle goes on forever thereafter. I wish I could help you and the million others in India!

Nowadays education has become a big business, forget inclusive education, even special schools complain about kids with special needs even though the teachers in special school are professionals in their respective field.

imma disagree with our PM modiji, SARVA SIKHSHYA ABHIYAN moment taken to every child must get an opportunity to study but i watch every morning several child working . Except this country, several small countries face this situation even generation has been changed. i wish gov.t of every country must give an opprtunity to children to study because the future of the nation depends upon children. there is no future without leterate.

They don't practice what they preach.! The number of Hispanic male faculty in colleges is close to invisible. That is the first issue they need to fix when it comes to "Inclusive and Equity Education".
