But why Amazon didn't record Rivian loss as an unrealized loss? Why expenses since Amazon didn't sell those stocks?

I believe it's because they hold it as a marketable security (i.e. short term). If it was a long-term investment, then the unrealized gain/loss would go into other comprehensive income.
