A Different Approach Tuition Limited i need help What about “depreciation for the year to date/month/year”? It is not the assets at cost nor depreciation provision, how do i enter it in income statement and financial position? Another one for irrecoverable debt question, what is a specific provision? I minus specific provision from account receivable, then multiply the answer to general provision(which is in %), and i got it wrong. I want to find the allowance for receivable
@rinreborn73644 жыл бұрын
A Different Approach Tuition Limited btw for the depreciation one, the question didnt give me any depreciation percentages nor which method to use which is different from your question
@adapttuition4 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. I would need to see the question to be able to better advise. You can find me on instagram (@adapttuition) and send a pic there. What i can think of with regard to that question is that it's straight line and you'll have to divide the cost of the asset by its expected useful life in order to calculate the depreciation charge per year.
@adapttuition4 жыл бұрын
The depreciation for the year to date might also be the accumulated depreciation which is the total depreciation of the asset since it was purchased. Depending on the depreciation method the working to arrive at this may vary but the concept is to add up all the depreciation charged against the asset over all the years for which it has been owned (since it has been purchased). Re the provision for bad debts: this sounds like the other method that I don't usually teach and with which I am not familiar. I have a video on the provision for bad debts on my channel. Maybe you can take a look at it but I am not 100% sure it will answer your specific question. If we are providing for a specific debt then perhaps, yes, will subtract that provision from the debtors balance but I don't think that we multiply the answer by the general %. I would have to do more research and see the question to know the specific context.

I have one question however, why is the revenue of sales not added with the other revenues and then deducted by the GOFS making gross profit, why is the other revenue added after Gross profit? I have a test next week, hopefully you can help me out! with that small question
@adapttuition4 жыл бұрын
Hi! So happy you like the videos :) There is no one right way to do an income statement, but there is a minimum amount of information that is required. The way you are describing can be used as well. The logic behind my presentation is that a business may want to see its profit generated from the sales of its goods - its major line of activity. The inclusion of other revenues before subtracting COGS may obscure the business's performance in that area (selling its goods). Hence, I show the profit generated from sales and then include other revenue. I have seen income statements deduct expenses before adding the other revenue. I suppose it depends on the type of company and if they have any specific presentation requirements. Hope that helps.

How do I treat it? (both on the income statement and balance sheet) Thanks
@adapttuition3 жыл бұрын
If the $35,000 is the depreciation for the current period then that goes in the income statement. The balance sheet figure would be the sum of the provision at the start of the year and the depreciation charge for the current period.

Hi! Usually this means you are free to use any method. However, read the question very carefully for contextual clues. If they say that the asset is to be depreciated evenly then this implies that the straight line method is to be used. If they say it’s to be depreciated evenly over a number of years then that’s also straight line method and you can divide the cost of the asset by the number of years.

Hi, sorry but things have been very busy as of late especially with the birth of my son, so I haven't been able to put out any new videos. Will probably resume early 2023.

Hi Maryam 😊 Yes, I haven’t done the tutorial on depreciation yet. But there are one or two past paper solutions where I explain how to do the calculations and even one with the t-account. So you can search across the channel with the keyword “depreciation” and I’m sure you’ll find it 😊

What if the asset was bought In the middle of the accounting period, when do I start depreciating the asset? Would I depreciate for a full year or just from the point its bought till the ending of the year??
@adapttuition3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the information in the question/the policy of the company. Some companies depreciate for the entire year regardless of when during the year the asset is purchased and then don't depreciate in the year of disposal, whereas some companies will depreciate the asset based on the length of time for which the asset was in use. If the question doesn't specify I would say it's up to you as to which option you go with but I would also recommend stating that method as a note with your solution so that the person correcting your script will know how you did the calculation.

@@adapttuition in the question there was a sentence I was confused with.. "Tom depreciates his machinery using reducing balance method at 20% per annum on all machinery held at the end of the year" does that mean he depreciates for one whole year regardless when he purchased it?
@adapttuition3 жыл бұрын
@@pareena9369 It sounds like that's what he does, yes. I would say to double check with another teacher just in case.

Hi, this video shows how to do this. The 20% on the cost/valuation is the straight line method, while the 15% on written down value is the reducing balance method.
@darksugar19808 ай бұрын
My answers to this is (65000*20%)= $13000 for motor vehicles Fixtures(85625-14025)*15%=10738.50 Am I correct?
@adapttuition8 ай бұрын
The motor vehicles one is correct but for the fixtures I think you should check to make sure you used the correct figures in the calculation
