Points to note 1. Previous year is a year which is of 12 months, starting from 1st april to 31st march and it is immediately preceeding assessment year 2. Income of previous year is assessed and taxed in A.Y for eg: Tax of Income earned in 2017-18 should be paid in 2018-19 3. Assessment year is an year in which income of previous year is assessed & taxed 2018-19 is A.Y for 2017-18 4. Every P.Y is also A.Y for P.Y and vuce versa //// Exceptions //// Meanings : ➡ When P.Y income is assessed & taxed in same year. Eg: 2017-18 income earnes and taxed in same year. >> residents who work in shipping business >> partnerships for short terms >> residents leaving india, permanently >> company cease to exist or business stopped before 31st march, pay the tax in the same year
