Hey artie, How do I convince my coach to stop letting liberos spike the ball, once they recive the ball they try to spike it straight after and call for it, the coach not only likes it, he endorses it

I'm assuming you wanna do this so your team can cover the attackers better and have a better defense. My advice would be to bring it up to the libs and get their opinion, if they like hitting and feel that the defense is fine even with them calling for it, then by all means they could keep it up. But if they agree with you, the coach would be more likely to listen to the libs themselves. Atleast I think, not entirely a super experienced vb player here lol

@@jacobd322 dude I tried telling them to stop trying to be hitters because most of the time they spike it right to the net💀💀💀 like I would be fine if they hit it over but they hit it in the net

is there a particular reason these players are liberos? Like, if they're hitting it over the net that'd still be a point lost if I'm not mistaken.

Hmmm seems like the best thing to do would be to just ask the coach the question. Why do you encourage liberos to spike? Start with that and see what they say. Im curious to how it goes.

Hey Coach, about increasing jump height would you recommend plyometrics over weight training like squats and deadlifts? Or a combination of both?

If coach Artie doesn’t mind me offering advice (I’ve worked as a strength coach in the fitness industry for over seven years), a combination of both would be best. Plyometrics are great for increasing power/explosiveness, but part of power comes from strength. Doing both would be best

Adding to Tommy's point, if you aren't very strong, get your strength up preferentially If you're pretty strong (2x bodyweight squat or more) but not jumping very high, get your plyo up (I graduated sports science last year, plus been a trainer for 6 years)

@sammckenzie6760 thank you for the advice. Is there any exercises you recommend to add? Because at the moment the only lower body lifts I do are squats and dead lifts.

@@gmtom19 That is a great start. It is tough to give the best advice since I don't know much about your training experience, the injuries you might have, etc. However, I can give some general advice. Squats and deadlifts (and variations of those lifts) are great, as mentioned. It might also be beneficial to incorporate single-leg exercises. For example, split squats, reverse lunges, lateral lunges, etc. Also, things like kickstand Romanian deadlifts or single-leg deadlifts (if you have the balance to do them). To add an additional point to my first reply, I would recommend adding in plyometric exercises if you can tolerate doing them. If you don't do much jump training, it might be good to start with something like a box jump or even jumping rope (it is a low-level plyometric exercise). I recommend adding these not only to benefit your vertical jumping but also to improve your body's resiliency to handle all of the jumping you do in volleyball. It makes you more capable of handling the jumping stress during a game. Again, though, this is general advice without knowing your situation. You're off to a good start. These are just suggestions. I would not add too much too quick, though. Add a few to start, and let your body adjust to them over time.

Good question! Intentionally practice getting balls thrown too close to the net. Also if youre feeling spicy try a one handed set 😂 not my fault if your coach gets angry with you though 😂
