The problem with this is that the boxes are fragile and can't be repaired. On the ocean, big waves damage boxes. Sailing near rocks that don't even touch the ship will damage the boxes. Waves moves the boxes, they damage each other and get damaged by the boat. Sea serpent attacks will probably 1-or-2-shot crates. When these boxes break, your ore goes staight to the bottom of the ocean. You're better off loading the whole cart. Speaking of carts, I once loaded 9 carts of silver on a Longship. It took about 1h to move the distance of a 15s run on land. Limit yourself to about 4 carts on a Longship, maybe 5, but never more. You also need to balance the carts, as well as the boxes. Moving carts is easy, as is repairing. The crates take damage trying to move to balance ship, and most often will just break at the dock or shortly out to rough seas.

Restored the file only to spawn with nothing in the middle of no where. Luckily I had a backup from the day before. Probably a console issue (I'm an Xbox peasant)

^^ There is a better solution! Build a cart on a dock plank above the ship, then destroy the dock plank. The cart is then on your ship and you can drive around with the ship. Did you Kill The Ship you Kill The Cart to and the Boxes Float on Top of the Sea. with a new Empty Cart you can Place the Boxes into a new Ship back and Rescue your Cargo. With the trick, when the ship is destroyed, there are only as many boxes on the water as there are cargo in the cart divided by 4 (each box has 4 spaces). If there are only 4 items in the cart, you only have to save 1 box and not 3 as here. In addition, there must be no placeholder items in the cart!

Apparantly the boxes doesn't take the weight of the items inside into consideration. However, the cart does. So with a cart your boat might be slower and more unstable. With the boxes it won't matter. I know it's late, but y'know.. If someone else stumbles upon this

You can use carts on the larger boat, just bring the handles close to the mast so they can't move too much and then push the cart from behind up against the mast. Then build wooden floor and stairs into the boat to take the cart out when you get to your destination. It pushes the boat down a bit but you can delete the stairs when you're done.

I'm used to putting a cart, if you position it right with a bit of a hassle of trial and error, it fits perfectly at the center and I never destroyed my boat because of it, it does little damage sailing in storms long trips, you can travel the map with them unless you like bumping into sea shore rocks But I guess these don't shake as much inside the boat?

I like just pushing my whole cart in the front. Less work and I don't have to worry about despawning containers. You can actually get another behind the sail, to help balance the boat and increase storage more.

I did that on a longship and it didn't work well 😁 the cart always wanted to drive away when sailing so I had to have it strapped on me while holding the post. It also damages the ship, but not too much. Well and then there is this thing that happened to us...so while holding the cart and the pole, the cart just flipped overboard and me flying along with it. I'm not saying it happens every time though because we haven't tried the second time lol. Feel free to try

I just throw the whole cart on the boat. I've noticed while doing this the weight mechanic of the cart (the more weight the cart holds, the shower it goes and gets harder to move) actually transfers to the boat making it easier for serpents to attack you. The weight will also pull your ship down towards where the cart is. My question, does this weight mechanic also apply to these cargo boxes?

No it doesn't. Boxes have like no weight mechanics and you can always push em like they're empty. The same way weight mechanics don't apply to a player, so you can carry another player with thousands of pounds in their inv if they're riding a cart and you'll pull like the cart was empty

I've been playing a nomad on a new run. Trying to rush to iron but my huge starter continent doesn't seem to have a swamp. I want to find a nice mistlands and plains border to settle on with a nearby mountain. This makes me wonder if I could push boxes onto other carts. Maybe before filling them and hope the new boxes onces ya do fill them holds them in place. Too bad this isn't a feature but at any rate at least I have a way to get all my loot across the sea. the longship and a lot of patience will do it. Trust me I had a wonderful bacon trip with a friend to get them to the main base, they both fell in the water at some point and mobs tried to kill them all along, but we made it and now meat is no longer a problem

i did this in a longboat and managed to get 50 storage crates on it, really helped transport supplies from my old meadows fort to my new plains fort on the server im on. But i found if you go above speed 1/3, the crates will bash about, so im not sure if it's minor server lag or the speed causing dmg to the crates, but figured i'd share incase anyone else had the same experience. Either way, very fun and hilarious~ (Be nice if they let you just add those crates onto ships, maybe like 1 for the raft, 3 for the kvane and 6 for the longboat)

Longship = must have. Even just for hauling more iron back to your base. So much better than using a Karve. Except for the handling. Turns oddly, back end scooting sideways. Easy to bump into rocks, but sturdy so won't matter much.

Free items don't collide with entities (boats, creatures, trees, etc). The cart thing does work, but both the boat and cart get damaged while moving so eventually one will explode. Or the cart will jump out.

the other reason is that you can leave them in the boat at all time and just bring your cart to the dock and transfer the items, just leave on item in them and you dont have to rebuild a cart every time

@b barnhouse Cart on the smaller boat is a mess. I have done some testing with carts. They do work but they have weight and they also are not the best in rough water. They also damage the crap out of your ship if they move around too much. They can also cause your ship to go flying off into the sky lol. That only happened to me once but it did happen. Was super funny cause I was just testing things but had I actually been playing I would have raged a bit.

I have seen our boat being almost submerged into water, with only 1/4 of the sail sticking up. I took screen shot and showed the other person in the boat, but he never saw that. And it wasn't only one time. I guess graphic shows different depending on your setting or gfx.

When I've lost a cart overboard once I just marked it and made additional trips. If it got launched to space though I would have used the backed up save. But in general I find physics in Valheim very stable. Never seen stuff flying around.

You could show people how to efficiently cut through a mountain biome with a pickaxe, from my experience it involves building small houses along called break rooms so you can refresh your rested buff and you can repair the pickaxe as you will need to do quite frequently as cutting through a mountain is hard work.

idk why you would increase your boat storage. if you want to teleport metals move them to a seperate server until you move your main char to the desired spot to transfer the item. Use a mule to be more efficient.

I would have gotten 9000 questions about how do I get them in the boat? I did this and they disappeared on me what am I doing wrong? How is this better than a cart? Are they stable or do they move around like a cart? Do they despawn? How many of them can I put in my boat? Do they damage the boat? And the list goes on and on. So I try to answer all of those questions I cant think of in the video because you have no idea how well each person watching it is going to grasp a concept. Not sure how to make it more simple to understand than that. And if you think you can do better. Have at it. KZbin is an open platform. As for the quality of my content. My analytics tell me all I need to know and it is very much the opposite of your option. If you don't like it you know where the door is and I suggest you hit that don't recommend this channel button and see yourself out.

Make a second single player world and load into it, build some chests. Go back to your main single player world, fill your inventory. Go to second world with chests (you'll spawn where you log out) drop off your stuff. Boom, never use a ship or cart in your life to transport. Reverse the process at your main base and grab all your stuff that you cant teleport with or couldn't normally carry.

I know if you try to just drop items on the boat, like tossing iron so you can actually jump onto the boat, they normally fall through. I know the boats would look better if they had a chest on the boat, instead of a trap door. Though too many people just use the easy cheats of server hopping and more, not understanding this is for those of us that actually want to play on one server only and play, probably, the way the devs actually intended. Plus take all the time in the world to explain the topic of your videos, maybe people will get bored of parroting and will actually take the hint, lol.

I got a cart on the Skarve, it's not easy, but you build a ramp and wheel it out over the deck with the handles going to either side of the mast and then destroy the last segment of the ramp so the cart falls onto the boat deck. It does cover up the boat storage, I leave 50 wood and 10 nails in there to build a workbench and another cart, just in case. (Also carry mats to build a portal) I've been in really rough seas with 1500 ore and it's stayed on the boat. It did fall out once when I had the boat too close to shore and was away during a big storm, the boat had washed up and tipped sideways, dumping the cart intact.

Nah i just use mods, this seems unnecessary complicated und dangerous. Imagine a Sea serpent attacks you or the boat just bugs a few skips and plop hours of farming is gone. I don't like using mods, so i thought i give this video a shot. But nope, the game is already grindy enough whitout the fear of loosing all my stuff to cluncky gamedesing xx.
