How about this topic: A carbon bubble crash is a potential economic downturn that could occur if the value of fossil fuel investments suddenly loses value and the industry's assets become stranded. This could happen if governments impose a limit on the total carbon budget, which could cause a "sudden stop" in the fossil fuel industry. Potential consequences of a carbon bubble crash Investors Investors with a high exposure to fossil fuels could lose billions of dollars. Economy A sudden crash could trigger a financial crisis, similar to the 2008 Financial Crisis. Jobs Jobs in fossil fuel production and related industries could be lost. Investment in green technology A recessionary response could deprive green technology of investment funds when they are most needed. The carbon bubble is a result of long-term artificial inflation of the fossil fuel industry. The Intergovernmental Panel on Cli

Our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy >>and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

We do have enough houses. It’s just that people like to buy them for airbnbs or rentals and it takes away the supply for families. It also raises the cost of buying a home and drives these crazy market booms in housing. In my small town it’s not corporations buying these homes that are lower cost it’s investors swooping in and buying them cash or even worse committing mortgage fraud by pretending to buy it as their primary residence but really using it as an investment. As a realtor I see it all the time because other realtors have no integrity and are just looking for their next customer and commission check.

You can vote on the implementation of a new law, but you don't get to vote on HOW it gets implemented. The lane will be taxed but we don't get to choose HOW much or WHEN. Some faceless entity does. Government can paint, but only with a broad brush. It can't handle doing finer details. I can only imagine what they will do with something as complicated as a capital gains tax and the programs they try to implement with that resulting tax money. I trust it will be a similar mess to the carpool/express lanes and make the risk not worth the reward

Krugman-the-textbook-author admits that a ban on price gouging is the same as a price ceiling. In his column, he gives examples of price gouging: “Texas prohibits many businesses from ‘demanding an exorbitant or excessive price’ on things including food and fuel during disasters,” “voters hate it when businesses take advantage of shortages to charge very high prices,” and “some of us still remember the California energy crisis circa 2001, when power producers reduced supply to drive up electricity prices.” Krugman is implying that a crisis constitutes an exception - it’s not a price control if it is implemented in response to a crisis.

Has this guest had a head injury? Funny how just her look suggests an inability to reason. She should be force to write a paper on all the disastrous unintended consequences when implementing a punitive capital gains tax system that taxes unrealized gains. She needs to talk about capital flight, destruction of the capital formation process, destruction of international tax competitiveness, mass deterrent for human and financial capital inflow.......

lol, wth? she's just talking and none of it matters. we had 4 years where americans had more money because of better policies. if people work, their money does not need to be redistributed. equity is bs because we don't all have the same morals, ethics, and come from the same places. the only equalizer is working had for what you need and want and making good financial choices. these people are why america is where it is right now! clean house at the federal level because they should never be the largest employer in america! that's what communist and socialist countries do. get out of debt and be self reliant.

She is talking as if the slashing of the interest rates by 0.5% is good thin. If I am not mistaken what will now come, will take any benefit by this cutting of interest rate and put added hardship upon the middle class and below. If I am right will she resign and never work within the government or within any financial occupation.

As a small business owner it is clear this lady is clueless. When big businesses lower their prices my sales go down because I can't be as competitive. My input costs are higher, forcing price controls will make it worse. Lowering energy costs and allowing businesses to pay wages we can afford is what we need to lower overall prices.

David - think of the wealth tax this way. The bulk of the average person’s wealth is tied up in their home. They in effect pay an unrealized “wealth” tax through payment of property taxes. This is easy for the tax authorities because the assets can easily be tracked. So let’s say their are 6000 people with 100 million in wealth or greater. The solution is simple in terms of enforcement of a wealth tax, assign (3) tax agents to each of those people so as to avoid collusion

I don't buy it; Price controle. Competition will flush-out the idea that artificial high prices can maintain. If you price yourself out of the market, you're not going to stay alive as a company.

Housing is not a market failure- it’s a regulation issue- are two income families a new phenomenon-Democrats have been in charge more than half the last thirty years and wealth inequality has risen drastically-if they go after 10000 taxpayers they might get 500 that don’t move their money

So if I heard her correctly, she works on Biden's team either directly or indirectly. Knowing her background, It seems that David invited her to give her extremely biased opinion slanted towards Harris' favor. That said, Elizabeth has done a great job of framing the Harris policy intentions which until now has been very poorly explained by Harris herself. David just did Harris a huge favor.

"it only affects people with $100 million or more...." --- No, it affecta everyone who owns shares in the companies that will need to be liquidated in order for thesd rich people to pay their unrealized capital gains tax bill. And, with the right amount of inflation, all Americans will be worth over $100 million.

I couldn't listen to more than a few minutes; I was getting nauseous. "Penalties for high prices doesn't equal price controls, and it's okay because it's just an incremental increase in the role of the federal government that States can do already." My eyes are in serious pain from rolling so far to the back of my head. How many times does economic and political history have to repeat itself before the masses understand that big government is a very very very bad thing? The consequences of following a well-intended, government loving ignoramus are the exact same as following an evil tyrant Marxist. This is insanity to consider these policies. It's 2024, we have books!
