"and I think that we've achieved that" I personally agree! I grew up with shows like this in the background. It was interesting and refreshing to see something that felt so familiar, but be encouraged to consider it differently. Felt a little like going to your childhood bedroom and realizing it's haunted.

Yeah, the whole money thing in sitcoms never made sense, they are always going into situations where they spend so much money for no reason other than stupid fun and they are always living in a dump because the main character is a lovable dumbass. I love this whole split between the multi-cam and single cam, I wonder if this show is going to get more meta where the single cam characters breaks the walls and realize they the world is Truman Show like in making everything for the main character the focus and everyone else suffering.

Eric Peterson did such a great job, but looking at his resume you can really tell he’s a theatre actor primarily. It’s not at all that he’s bad, far from it, but he’s got the perfect acting style for something that’s set up as live
@SAS-fn9ce13 күн бұрын
He nailed it. The change in the characters from sitcom to drama is really well done. He has mastered the ‘rhythm’, ‘tempo’ of the sitcom style, and it how it encapsulates what people see versus what people feel, which coms out in the drama cuts. His cross over at the end was excellent. They were all really great. He’s brutally narcissistic with the backdrop of laughter and then the drama cuts with her being on the receiving end and how devastating it must be to actually is to be in this. Great acting.

really smart questions that made for a great interview. thank you! i found it quite profound to think about the live audience reactions for the multi-camera scenes when they didn't have the full context of seeing the single-cam, grittier version of reality. it's almost like a metaphor for how society can be blinkered in its view and understanding of the patriarchy and its impact on women.

Wowowow I’m loving the questions in this interview- I feel like it’s freshman journalism to learn to ask questions under the 5w framework, questions that don’t beg yes/no answers, and so many broadcast news programs are leaning into those yes/no questions and not questions that stoke real discussion so thank you for that this is fantastic!

I really wish the show hadn't gotten so dark so fast. I really appreciated the contrast between Kevin's perspective of regular life vs Allison's perspective of the daily details and unseen labor of running a household. I guess I understand the desire to focus on something bigger, but I thought the show lost some of the commentary on the division of labor in relationships and the expectations on men vs women by diving so deep into the crime/revenge story.
@penngheeney3 жыл бұрын
Also, it loses a lot of potential for wives to ask their husbands to watch the show with them (at least I know I'm not going to) because her reactions are so extreme. "Honey, I'm not saying I want to kill you, I just want you to think about the consequences of your actions more."
@kissarococo24593 жыл бұрын
I thought the road trip episode kinda delved into that with Allison asking one thing from him (food in the oven) and he of course failing it even with the help of Alexa. He called the cops on her because she is not allowed to ignore him when he needs crisco instead of looking for it himself. But yes, it could go deeper ands it just might in the next season.
@penngheeney3 жыл бұрын
@@kissarococo2459, I agree. I think the road trip episode might have been my favorite because it really showed the difference in expectations between Allison and Kevin.

@chase58602 жыл бұрын
I think it seemed to have gotten dark very quickly because by the start of the show beginning, Allison has finally reached a breaking point after 10 years. We watch Kevin's behaviour and think to ourselves that he is an insufferable manchild but if this was my life for a decade, I think I would also be in her state of mind. That is my perspective at least

This was a terrific interview and Eric Peterson seems like a good guy and is able to articulate himself well. So far I'm still not sold on the show. The reason for this is that the sitcom parts just don't work for me. I don't like Kevin, his crew and don't find those scenes funny. Some of you might say - well, that's the point. However, that doesn't change the fact that ME , the viewer, has to sit through them. That's not good TV. Not that anyone is going to listen to a schmoe like me, but what could help is if the sitcom parts were only shown when Allison is in the scene also. It would be better if the "sitcom world" of Kevin only existed when Allison was in the scene. However, I am loving Allison outside of the sitcom world and her interactions with other characters.
@G-B313 жыл бұрын
I agree, the sitcom parts are not funny.
@G-B313 жыл бұрын
The sitcom parts are like ABC sitcoms which I would never watch. Tho' I do like the show's concept and the darker one camera parts.
@kissarococo24593 жыл бұрын
I think they are not meant to be funny at all. They are mant to be uncanny valley because the "real world" makes it clear Kevin is a narcissistic abuser. The sitcom world gives eerie glimpses of the horror that is Kevin: getting and abandoning a dog, almost forcing himself on Allison to make a baby and cosntantly lying and deceiving her for sport and how everything is about him.

If you pay attention his behaviour slowly gets darker and more disturbing but the laughter increases.

@@Skadivoreagree. This show was so precise at showing how emotional abuse is carried out. Notice he is alone in the end. Everyone who experienced his abuse has finally left whether they are women or men. He played the dark character with perfection. His character was so scary in the last episode.
