Genius level stuff, Jim Carrey. He brought so much joy and happiness to my family and I over the years, especially at his peak, starting with Living Color. I remember the moment I realized how truly remarkable Jim Carrey's talent is. The Truman Show. Near the end, when he's in the boat and facing everything about himself - his terror, his past, his uncertainty about the future and his certainty that he must keep moving towards it - I was blown away. Stunning performance and wholly unexpected, since previous performances were Ace Ventura, The Mask, etc. Memorable and b.e.a.youtiful.

I was living in a share house with 9 other people in the tropical north of Australia and it was so bloody hot one day that we decided to all jump in my panel van and go to the local cinema because it had industrial grade air conditioning. On the sweaty drive in several blunts were passed around inside the car and we shuffled red-eyed and staggering into the theatre not even knowing what we’d bought tickets to. The movie was called “Ace Ventura Pet Detective “ 😅 two minutes in and I was struggling to breathe and I still remember all of us shrieking with hysterical laughter like it was yesterday. Not everything is filmed with a whole camera crew and set. with the right camera and gear you can take a long distance shot and have a mic close enough to the actor especially if you want to save money and want to get a nice organic environment and not have to pay a bunch of people, not really rocket science.
@winnetouch
@winnetouch 10 ай бұрын
@@bes12000 Yeah, sure... It's not like Jim and the camera operator were the only ones there, even with such a scenario. Not to mention that it's a public space and you need a permit to film in a public space. If you have a permit it costs money and then you usually close of that space for the duration of the filming to prevent exactly this from happening. You won't be taking chances of random people walking into your shot and delaying a shoot you have a limited time to do (as per the permit). And if it's not a public space, you need to make a deal with the property owner that you pay. Same exact scenario. You will have limited time and will close of the set for the duration of the shoot. So no... They were probably not just some randos on the street. Not saying the scene isn't improvised though. It may well be, but the fact is they were paid extras.

I looked up Pete Farrelly's comments in the Reddit AMA and he said the pair weren't extras, they were bystanders who were watching the production and Farrelly put them in the scene. So they're technically are "random men who were not paid extras", like the video said. I think the issue is that the phrase "they just happened to be outside the 7-11" makes it sound like they were randomly caught on camera, rather than being put there intentionally by the director.

Ace Ventura was the first time I can remember hard core laughing in a theater as a kid. My aunt took me my brother and our cousin to see it randomly, we had no clue to what it was about . But we all laughed our @$$es off. Aunty tried to cover our eyes during the love scene LOL.
