The emotional pull of Ferrari's is exactly why I own one as well! You described perfectly what I try to explain to others about why you want a Ferrari. They aren't always the fastest, or have the latest and greatest, but they have the beauty and emotional connection that satisfies you on another level. This creates the passion!

The 250 GTO shown here is 4293GT. It won 2nd place overall and 1st in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1963. I think $65m for this particular car alone is a very realistic estimate. The current owner is William "Chip" Connor.

Just went to the museum in january and that ferrari room made me think of you right away. Glad you got to see it. When I was there, they had the 250 gto, the 250 testarosa, and the LM all in a line down the middle of the room. Just amazing to see all three together.

I'm slightly disappointed that they don't have a 250 SWB, though, on the other hand... that means there's a 250SWB that could be owned by someone who drives it. I'd say, if you don't go for an Alfa as classic car, go for a Porsche... retro or classic alike, they are awesome and beautiful. Just make sure they are air-cooled, those are the true classics.

when I visited museum on my birthday last summer, they had slightly different Ferrari collection: Nikki Lauda's F1 race car and LaFerrari next to Schumacher's F1 racer, 288 GTO next to 250 TR, which were near 250 LM and 250 GT California SWB, and also they had huge collection of classic Bugattis instead of Porsche collection

I went last year, anyone who goes should pay extra and take the vault tour. Underneath the building is a huge storage area, you get a guided tour of the literally hundreds of cars that are kept there. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures. One of the best car museums in the world for sure.
@Redstoneprime3166 жыл бұрын
If i went into the vault, I would just ignore that policy and take pictures anyway. It's against their rules, but not against the law. (I mean, you aren't doing anything bad by doing so, are you?)
@TheMach056 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that would just end the tour on the spot. The vault tour groups are quite small, mine I think had about ten people in it. The museum has quite strict policies, for example all bags have to be handed in before you're allowed to go into the museum. I understand from one of the other people on my tour that the last time he took the tour someone did try to take a picture and the guide simply took everyone back to lift and the tour ended only a few minutes after it had started. The main reason we were told for not being allowed to take pictures was that a lot of the cars are lent to the museum and belong to other people. A some of the cars were under covers so you could not see what they were anyway.
@Redstoneprime3166 жыл бұрын
TheMach05 how are you supposed to remember what you saw there? By drawing pictures of them all? Also, have the museum owners never heard of "car spotting"?

What about classic sports/supercars like the Ford GT40, Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini Miura, Jaguar E-Type, AC Cobra, Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari F40, Alfa Romeo T33 Stradale or Lancia Stratos? Also, if you were given a choice between one of them and a Toyota Prius, which would you pick? Also, by "modern classics" i take it you mean cars built between the 1980s-early 2000s?
@abhilashghosh41786 жыл бұрын
Redstoneprime your time frame for modern classics is apt and I would always choose the F40 over any other car. I was never a fan of alfa romeo’s inverted triangle grille. As for lamborghinis, I truly started to appreciate them from the time of Diablo.

Peter Mullin, the head of the Peterson museum, wants to open a museum in the U.K in The Cotswolds, it looks like it could be very special, let’s hope he gets the ok from planning.. unfortunately he has tough opposition from some rich locals, like Sir Patrick Stewart, who, with a rather elitist nimby argument, is saying such museums are elitist!
