The skyhook is the most BS touch in sabre. It's a foolish, low-percentage gamble that the other fencer won't hit you with right-of-wat while you (literally) do the wrong thing. Much better to feint the counterattack and make parry riposte. This is just showy nonsense.

@@albertbresca8904 You're not "pulling it off" you are only gambling that the other guy will miss. He has the RoW. Would you do that in a fight with pistols? If you want to be 'seriously cool' (as opposed to, you know, win) then hit him on the wrist, then parry, then hit him with the riposte. Now turn to the ref and ask if you should get two points...

@@georgegonzalez-rivas3787 i've done this... stepped back so the other guy fall short and hit him on the arm as retreating out of distance.... there is nothing like one light and not the attackers to make ones day... a stop cut into preparation of someone who thinks they have the attack (and he does ...but he doesn''t land... so ROW is not relevant as not his light) in a fight with pistols you can never counter attack as there is no distance to avoid his bullet... what a strange comparison? did you think that one out before writing something like that ??? pistols... lol yes it is a low percentage hit... but when you pull it off it is great... and he does... actually it isn't gambling that much ... mind you if his attack had landed likely we wouldn';t see a video of his attack missing would we??? are your even a fencer? 2 points? doesn;'t matter how spekky the hit is it is only ever worth one point... to say ask for 2 points... sigh... seriously?!.. i am not sure whether to laugh ... or cry... such a silly thing to say... well another silly thing to say....

@@albertbresca8904 Dear Albert. Yes. I was a sabre fencer on the US National team for a decade or so. And I totally disagree with your answer. You only get 1 point for your skyhook, just like any other touch. And you only get it if the other guy misses. You want to stroke your ego by trying to make this touch? Go right ahead. Do it a lot. You'll be hitting the showers sooner than you would be, though. Re two touches... that was a joke. If you want to belittle your opponent with this skyhook by JOKE was that you could fence correctly, hit him with the stopcut, parry him, and then hit him with the riposte. THEN you joke to the referee that your action was so superior you should get two points. BTW, just for grins, there was a time in the official rules of fencing - a long time ago - when a parry & riposte in Sabre was awarded 2 points! Also, the referee (then Director of Jury) had the discretion to award Style Points for proper execution. Up to three points, I believe. But we don't award style points anymore -- so reconsider your skyhook. It's jejune, low-percentage, and doesn't make you a better fencer since you can only really use it with a weaker opponent.

This Skyhook move is analogous to paso soto in foil... you duck under the attack and score with a counter-attack. This is a valid move (historically, it's how Romeo kills Tybalt), but it only works IF THE OTHER GUY MISSES. Missing happens a lot in foil, much less often in sabre.

What fleche? You can’t fleche in sabre. A fleche is an action involving the crossing of the legs (illegal in sabre).
