I bought a metal platform bed from Amazon. Then I bought 6 of those large plastic storage crates from Walmart. The crates fit perfectly under the bed. Zero wasted space on drawer hinges, etc. Crates can be pulled out and moved to different rooms as/when needed. Much more storage space than the fancy beds shown here. And a cost difference in the 1000's. I'll keep my setup.

I can see the practicality in some of these space saving designs. I'm sure if you live some place like New York or even Europe where there is a lack of space in homes, these would be incredibly useful. I can also see how this would be for those people who like to keep their clutter out of sight for a nice clean look in their home.

I've lived in a studio condo now for almost seven years and love it. If you have a small home don't fill it with crap. Choose your furniture wisely and sparingly. Everything should have at least one legitimate purpose. Two or more purposes are better. For example, the two end tables along side my couch provide a surface for a lamp, book and coaster. They also have two drawers each for useful storage. I have a little bistro table where I eat and it doubles as extra desk space when I need it. My entertainment center is made up of a long row of modular chests of drawers which provide a ton of storage. You don't have to spend a ton of money to live comfortably in a small space.

It'd be awesome to have some of this as I'm currently living out of ~120 square feet, but the problem is that the kind of people living in spaces this small usually are living there because they cannot afford to live anywhere else. Of course there are outliers, but the fact is that these are hyper expensive things. I've looked into some of this stuff, and you can forget it unless you're willing to spend 6 grand on a bed.

i started making bespoke furniture in the 70s - cme up with all kinds of nifty storage space ideas - very difficult to sell. Every so often i made a few extra pieces for myself - every single one is for me a real gem, hand made solid wood. Cheap furniture, just for a few years - double the price and its for life

The only furniture that actually saves space is the one that uses the above-head volume of the apartment/house or has multipurpose furniture. Majority of the things shown are not space saving, they are just fancy furniture. For example, that last one - what space is actually saved? It uses the same amount of volume, for a single purpose, regardless of the position of the shelves. A bed raised so that you use the full volume of a room (as volume above your typical room is wasted, which can be up to a third of room's volume) IS a space saving furniture. Smart kitchen? No. It is just a fancy kitchen which would actually be a bore to use after a few days. For example, that overhead compartments that slowly open on touch - why would you do that if you want efficiency? It uses power and it is slow. I don't mind designed furniture like that, just don't talk about that like it is saving you something or that it is easier to use. It is the female equivalent of men with their Hummers, you know, the only actual use is to flaunt that you have it while it has no actual practical value and is actually more of a problem for every day use.

I do think the walk-in closet was kind of space saving, or maybe it just seems convenient. Same space is either a comfortable closet that stores a lot and is easy to use, or a desk to work on, or free space you may need when guests are over or you want to dance in your room lol. Maybe not exactly space saving but seems like it would be comfortable in a small room. Perhaps just the folding desk is space saving.

I know this video is quite old, but a tip for editing videos that people will watch through is: show what is being talked about. While the voice over was talking about the space inside the Living Cube, you were showing clips of the ladder and bed on top. It's not very pleasing to watch and listen because they are both showing/describing different things.
