My house was built by a bootlegger around 100 years ago. There is an actual hidden room. Also, I found a number of hidden places used for storage (I bet his alcholic items. lol) They come in different sizes, one almost killed me (the largest after the secret room). Lucky I moved very fast. There is a hidden small closet, where I keep my larger firesafe and a second in front in case someone finds it. That one is located behind a door in my tornado safe room. You can bet I have zero intention of ever selling it. My daughter is waiting in line, but I plan to make it to 105.

A hidden room of any size is easy to notice in modern houses. However, back in the late 70's, my wife and I were in on-base housing in Ft Ritchie MD. The old (mostly identical) housing was 2 stories with 10 foot ceilings. This left a lot of space under the L shaped stairs. One of the sergeants noticed the door to this under-stairs storage was missing in his house. Rapping on the walls, he found a panel on the end wall that slid sideways on rollers. With a bit of work he converted it into a small play room for his 2 young daughters.

The idea randomly popped in my head of wanting a secret bookcase door to my laundry room and this just gave me the nudge I needed to actually go for it. It’s an added bonus that I’ve been looking for better ideas on how to access my things in the lower part of the under-stairs storage so I don’t have to remove everything each time I need to grab something from the back. And the last thing that’s been driving me nuts are these unsightly junction boxes and fuse panel in my pantry and kitchen that I’ve been wanting to disguise… and on a separate note, I wanted to tile my pantry but it never crossed my mind to use tile as the face of an access panel!!! I’m so grateful I came across this video. What are the chances that it addressed all 3 of my major gripes with solutions I can actually accomplish with my skill level and budget.

From experience, I can tell you that when you’re sleeping and suddenly you hear your front door being kicked in, by the time you wake up, listen to find out what you’re hearing, finally have your brain process it, react, reach for the switch/remote control, and if, by that time, you then need to stand there stupidly while your headboard raises slowly on an actuator… it’s too late for you or your family. Don’t “admire” that one. That one is just stupid.
@FurnitureFan Жыл бұрын
Simple. You press a button in your headboard & the hallway turns into a giant trapdoor. You have breakfast & call the cops on the trapped prisoners in your basement.

Hi! Sorry to hear this. I never thought that videos were watched as a family. 80-90 percent of the channel does not have this type of content. They exist only in videos with a title similar to the title. I also have a phobia of firearms and I don't like them at all. What I really want to emphasize in videos is the interesting and creative design itself. What they are hiding is not important to me. Glad you liked the video, see you then :)

So my thoughts are as followed and are for good reasons. I'm not against secret rooms, just havr my own thoughts is all. 1:) If I enter into a home and see areas that don't line up with the planned architecture, then it's going to be obvious that there is a hidden room in the area. Example being; if I see a bedroom that is set too far back from a known wall and the roon is smaller than the distance to said wall, it is obvious there must be a hidden room. 2:) Entrances are only as good as the area around them allow them to be concealed. We saw great examples in the video, but it goes back to my first point. If i see a bookshelf that doesn't belong or looks too obvious, then all I need do is find the switch to access said room. Also, if the entrance is too exagerated in other visual manners, then it would be obvious. 3:) The only good hidden rooms are the ones undergound and have entrances that are hidden umder the stairs with a believable storage room as a red haring. This means you have both the storage room and the entrance under the stairs but accessed seperately. 4:) This is probably the most important observation I can point out. If you have a secret room, dont point it out to anyone outside the house. Meaning, don't make a video of it, take pictures of it, or even tell friends about it. By doing any of those things, you basically give away any possible safe locations in case of emergancies. Granted, yes, they are not meant to act as safe rooms, but in a quick pinch they can be used to protect your family if everyone keeps quiet. All in all, if I had the money, I would go for an underground hidden room as it won't be blatantly obvious in my houses layout. It would be the best option because there would be no reason to suspect an underground room in a one story house.
