Just to clarify, that was not a failed maneuver, this was a forced landing, there was something wrong with the plane, the pilot send a mayday signal and return to Costa Rica (it was supposed to land in Guatemala) when they landed, the plane was not slowing down properly (partly because of the weight it carries) so the pilot had to make that turn, otherwise they would haven gone straight to the highway.

If airplanes were structurally firmer, they would be too heavy to fly. Therefore they are fragile, at least not made to withstand loads such as those generated when falling into that depression perhaps 3 or 4 meters deep right next to the runway of El Coco Juan Santamaría Airport in San José CR. The fuselage broke in two. The airplane broke in many more parts. Poor insurer. For sure this B757 will be written off.

What? Where did you get the 757 (or any plane) has a lifespan of 20 years? First, airplanes are not designated a "lifespan" ...manufacturers and operators don't count years, they count cycles. 30,000, 40,000, 60,000 cycles etc. Do you know there are still over 600 757's in active service including about 100+ still flying for Delta? Delta won't retire their 757's until the late 2020's. Age rarely has anything to do with an aircraft crash...it is usually maintenance, pilot error or etc.

it will probably depend on the outcome of this incident's investigation and whether the pilots made any severe errors. but as the video says, pilots reported hydraulic issues and the investigators will most definitely will have to look at that too, and how it may play a part in resulting what we see in the video.

I don't think so. Both took excellent decitions to have a success landing. (No one was injured), the problem was that they didn't have plane control. How lucky!

The immediate response of Costa Rica is exceptional. It should be this way to all couriers and staff, that are efficient in handling concerns as prevention, measures and standards are efficient. SMEs....General Practices.../.../.../.../../.../.../Inspection control/fleet managers/air traffic control officers are well coordinated regarding these types of exceptional response and handling time. Respectively : G.M Industries.

It’s amazing how an airplane can travel for millions of miles, through every kind of weather, heavy storms and winds, carry hundreds of people and tons of goods, heck even be lightning strike proof, and then break apart immediately if something goes on on the ground.

Only if all those field was concrete, this plane would do a perfect 180°. Sadly it was on the end of runway (it had to, to decrease speed) and the field was not concrete with deep drain angle. Kudos to the pilot. It was unbelievable to do that with no hydrolics
