LOVE IT!! We are "Kindred Souls" Never tryed a tent....BUT......Just about everywhere else you could imagine I have utilized to create similiar spaces as you are doing here over the years (I'm 63). My interest include horticulture (yes I have dumpster dived for plants too.... SAVE That ficus!!) herps...fish....birds....insects.....etc. BTW that purple hanging plant you couldn't remember name of is commonly called "A Wandering Jew." Got few suggetions....bird cages (smaller species finches/canaries/budgies/ love birds /diamond doves (not much bigger than canaries) ) on pullies suspended from rafters so you can play with heights for accessability and/or estetics.....OR.....If you like creepin out your friends (I love it) use some of those global bowls you have to suspend from ceilings / walls In just some rope potted plant hangers with smaller temperate climate NOCTURNAL arachnids scorpions/black widows /etc.. Being nocturnal you don't need to be concerned about supplying UV. Dimly light the place at night while in there and they will all become active .Throw a cricket in with them and watch all your friends squirm and shiver as they watch the feeder insect having its life juices slurpped from its body.....YES...I have some real whimpy friends... At any rate enjoy your shed A.K.A. "Statement / Proclamation of Self!"
@dukeallen43703 жыл бұрын
ONE more thing : Take some 5-6" (or longer) cuttings from that Wandering Jew and stick them in a plastic pot or aquatic plant basket of some inorganic planting medium (hydroponic gardening ;-) ) and float it in one of those floating planters you got from Amazon.....It will probably do really well . As the roots grow longer and start hanging down into the water it will not only have positive effects on cleaning out ammonia and the like but in time will also serve as good hiding space for fry and/or for some egg layers that adhere eggs to plants. If you want to hatch the eggs out in specific fry rearing tank all you need to do is lift the whole thing out and float in in rearing tank.....Voila!!!! Easy and Practical

@@danidoeslife2290 Awesome! I'm glad you commented, I subscribed in case you decide to upload another video on it (or any of your other ongoing projects). I'm really excited to see this idea actually done lol! It's totally a dream, vicariously, come true haha. Also-- Big 4 Ice Caves?! My partner and I used to go there all the time, it's breathtakingly beautiful. We lived in Mt. Vernon, WA & Bellingham before moving to MN. I want to move to Oregon now, I think, but I thought I would definitely need a room like this throughout the rainy season--I certainly need one here in MN because of how cold it gets! Do you think, after installing the skylights, you will have to add supplemental lighting for your plants during the rainy season because it's so overcast?
@danidoeslife22903 жыл бұрын
@@necromancer-x thank you for subscribing, hopefully some day I can put together a video or two, much more a quick clip girl 😆 but I have taken a bunch over the last year with the build so would be fun to put it all together. Yes the ice caves are awesome! I actually have gone my whole life until this year without going there! I couldn't believe it. So close to my house, and a quick easy hike. Bob and I did a couple trips this summer. And yes! With the skylights I will probably still keep the plant lights going as well - I find, especially now that I have a room full of tanks, that I don't necessarily love a fully lit tank. I find some of the aquarium lights to good for the plants inside. But so bright and jarring for the fish. The plant lights everywhere actually work as the light source for some tanks, and I find that to be plenty in a lot of cases. Also, they help to keep the temperature up out there, so win win!
@necromancer-x3 жыл бұрын
@@danidoeslife2290 I remember my partner and I hiking around the Ice Caves; there was a beautiful moment where the mist coming off a waterfall caught the sunlight, it looked like it was glowing, and the mist felt so refreshing as the wind blew it towards us! We used to hike Mt. Baker a lot, too. We're open to the idea of moving back to that area when I'm done with school! Sadly, I'm in MN now; I don't have a long time period to experiment with plants, or aquatic plants, because it quickly becomes too cold for them to be shipped practically. Congrats on all of your work! Your shed, legit, is like the coolest thing I've ever seen. I'm gushing over this video haha; this is my dream, tho I'm far from anything like it atm. In my apartment I have a beveled window that I've loaded with plants which I'm proud of it... But tbh, and I'm so embarrassed, I've been trying to have a planted aquarium for 2 YEARS now and I just can't keep my plants alive! 😭I feel like it shouldn't be this hard lol
@danidoeslife22903 жыл бұрын
@@necromancer-x totally! The 3rd cave over was my favorite, had melted back from the heat to form an 'ice Bridge' and behind it was that 150ft sheer rock wall with a full waterfall that you could walk right up to it, so cool. If you can handle the rain, the scenery here definitely makes for some memorable moments for sure! And thank you for the compliment! I didn't realize how many others enjoyed the plants+fish combo, feels good to know I have some people 😊 And don't feel bad about your lighting options or your aquarium plant luck! Before the tent I had 100s of semi happy to unhappy plants vying for light in my house, getting knocked over by my cats and played with, or peeing in them! 😫 And as for aquarium plants, I have killed so many, and I don't see an end in sight! Lol. But that's where I learn the most, is in the failures. I have learned that anubias, crypts, buce, and Phillipine java fern work well with my care abilities and water, so I stick with those mostly now, abd experiment less. If it takes weekly fertilizer, CO2 or high light it ain't for me 😆

So beautiful, a celebration of aquatic and plant life. I especially LOVE the skunk corys, I've never seen them before and they are adorable.. I'd be interested to know how you manage the plumbing. BTW that purplish leaf hanging plant is an Inchplant, and the snake plant is called Mother-in-law's tongue.

Thank you! Appreciate it. Definitely love the skunks myself!as for managing the plumbing...I don't 😅 I planned to drill tanks and install plumbing with the racks but timing didn't allow, so I've had to improvise and change plans and install AFTER it's all up and full of tanks. 0/10 stars do not recommend lol

Thank you both for sharing this! You’ve certainly inspired me to make some adjustments to my own fish room. Maybe I missed it but how do you regulate the temperature in the shed? I’ve got an insulated shop in back of my new house that I’d love to convert into my fish utopia but I’m not sure how to keep it warm without breaking the bank! Any suggestions? I look forward to more videos of your fish shed!

No good way to heat it without breaking the bank. Winter months are always expensive even with really good insulation =(
