My grand was a wire drawer. It was his job to draw the out to the right gauge. He help to make the rope for the first Forth Road Bridge.

Way cool! I used to work for Western Sling in Denver, Colorado (Sedalia actually) doing this back in the 80’s Thank god I was mostly a delivery driver, and rarely had to fight with those things. Where have the years gone?

When I operated cranes, I would change the reeving of the cable sometimes daily. It was only 7 / 8, and if you let it get away and it slap you across the face or head you were probably going to the E.R. . The ones I see here look like up to 3 inche diameters,, tremendous energy stored when it is bent . Screw up with these large cables, and that end can come around and get you so fast, and so hard, you can't get out of the way fast enough. 100 percent concentration, knowledge, safety or you can be terrible hurt or worse...
