The best documentary I ever seen. Unbelievable journey of life of butterflies.

I urge all watchers of this video who live in and along the Monarchs' migratory route to plant native Milkweed to feed their larvae. Their numbers have been flagging recently due to habitat loss and selfish farming practices. One little patch in every yard is all it takes. Host (caterpillar) plants for other butterflies in your regions can be planted as well. Incorporate native wildflowers into your gardens for nectar. Spread the word and Spread the Weeds.

+Danaus plexippus I have a large butterfly garden with dozens of swamp milkweed plants as well as nectar plants. I live in the Orlando area and we have 2 seasons, spring and fall, where I see many Monarchs in the garden on the nectar plants, mating and producing the tiny caterpillars that gorge on the milkweed. It is a wondrous spectacle.

I do...I just started this year...I had 3 eggs...only one made it out alive. I let him go, in a forest, after housing him through his metamorphosis last Tuesday. I think about him every day at hope he makes it to Mexico from Southern Ontario. I've expanded my operation, giving milkweed to friends..I have more habitats to keep them safe indoors next year. I'm anxiously awaiting for August to come again.

Aren't milkweed plants dangerous for insects?
@rszilvarn8 жыл бұрын
SRRN Insect ....not for baby monarchs. My milkweed had ants,spiders milkweed beetles and which use the milkweed as hunting grounds, and bees that feed in the flowers.

Wow, butterflies get to go on a journey through America, Canada, and Mexico. But what do we moths do? We just ruin clothing and be attracted towards light. Butterflies get the better spotlight than us :(((((
@lepidlover05574 жыл бұрын
Not all moths. Certain moths lay their eggs on cotton plants and since your clothes are made of it, that's what they lay their eggs on

First of all , I'm not afraid of hell or the devil. I believe in God because I want to. Anyone who picks on people for their personal beliefs or lifestyle by typing a few keys on a key board is a coward like you and that other rude person. You need to grow up and get a life so that you wont get mad when you see a comment you don't agree with. Idc if you think I believe in magic and idc if you dont believe in God. But people should start respecting others. Just childish.

Breaks my heart that Monarch butterflies are in very serious trouble. Their population has dropped 90%. If Monarchs were people, that would be like losing every person in the United States except for the people in Florida and Ohio. There was one lone Monarch in my sister's garden for several weeks in September 2019. Then on October 25, 2019, we saw it again for a week. It's the same butterfly because it has a very tiny tear on the wing. It flies but we're guessing because of the torn wing it was unable to make that epic 3,000 mile journey to Mexico. The wind would probably make the tear larger. We cared for it as best as we could. There was milkweed and plenty of nectar from flowers. Honey and Bumblebees were feasting as well. Everything is non-GMO meaning our garden is organically grown with heirloom seeds like it once was during my parents and grandparents days. The majority of the people, wildlife and nature was healthy then. Don't use pesticides like Roundup (glyphosate), not ever, that should be stated in the video description as well.

Wow! Fascinating stuff. Thankyou for sharing. Wd be great to see a follow-up,when we've worked out how they manage to meet up to mate at specific sites on the way back to Canada....or maybe they pair up for the return leg??? So much funky knowledge encoded in their DNA/software. These dudes make the impressive navigators we call bees look like Sunday drivers! Makes Avatar look a bit naff,tbh! ;-)
