No, actually The calf was lead back to its mother and herd. In a rare act of 'love' where the lioness's maternal instincts outweighed the insticts to hunt. Basically, she made the choice to keep that calf safe and help it find it's herd.

Mother instinct took over for not killing a wild beast calf to eat……I didn’t see a mother of that calf anywhere in the footage, so I don’t think the calf will survive on his/her own even if the lioness had let him/her go. 😢

This behavior seems to be quite common, but the lioness’s plan is more sinister. The plan is to attract the mother wildebeest, the lioness will still eat the calf.

Not sure which time this is!! I seen one lioness guarding a calf for a long time and then another lioness came up and killed it and this lion tried to protect it!! This person in the thread said that the lioness lead it back to the herd tho, I’m not sure but very interesting at the very least!!
