This is exactly what I was thinking of doing to my new/old Terry boat from the 70s. I just didn’t know if it would be possible. This boat is pretty massive for a V hull tin boat. I’m delighted to see this and now know exactly what I’m going to be doing to it. Edit: My girlfriend’s grandpa sold me the boat and the matching trailer for $500. It’s definitely going to need some work. So what I saved with the purchase price to keep with your budget, I’m going to have to spend for restoration. Oh well, I think this project is going to be incredibly fun.

Great job , I’m looking to do the same thing but with a fiberglass hull if I can find one , flats boats are insanely expensive here in west central Florida, the one thing I noticed was that the plywood wasn’t painted or sealed which might give ya a problem later with moisture intrusion, but the boat looks great and it’s a great price, tight lines bro ! 🐟👍🏼

Nice presentation. 1816 isn't bad for all that you did. I've got a 14 foot Deep V Grumman that I want to upgrade. I've done the trailer replacing the wiring, lights, and inner bearing seal, and new tires. That was that. Next I'm going to work on the boat. I want to flat bottom it for ease of moving around. I've got a 15 horse motor that runs just fine so that's good. Then some of the simple things need replacing. Rod holders, down rigger holder, and the big expense will be replacing the fish finder. The old one was leaking some kind of a black goo.

I have a 1955 Runabout made by General Boat. It's a good boat, had it on every river and lake within 50 miles, lol I put bottoms in it to make the ribs flat so it's easy to walk on. I've done it a couple of times; one thing I learned... Don't use carpet! Carpet, if not covered and well maintained will get really bad real quick. Better to paint the wood and add pumice or some other nonslip surface to it, or expanded PVC board(more expensive, but lasts).

This may be a dumb question since I'm new to boats but the 2x4 supports you put in did you run any screws through the bottom of the boat to secure them or just into the hull and transom?

I’ve got a 58 sears jon boat a lot like this. Mines got skeletonized seats so instead of adding weight for storage I was able to largely go the other direction and loose it for storage. I still wound up heavier than I was but not so bad that it’s really noticeable. Big difference is I don’t fish for bass so making a nice carpeted boat wasn’t top priority as much as making it functional for catfish. My mods were more in the trailer. I’ve had rods disappear out of trucks and boats so I took pvc pipe and a hinge and padlock making tubes on each side of the trailer to lock my fishing rods in. Probably the only thing I miss about my bass boat was I could do the same thing but lick them under the deck

I just got a 16 foot Landau that is 67" wide with a a trailer for $700 from FB Market place. He wanted $1000 but I just asked if he'd take $700 and he said sure. Just needs new transom and a few rivets replaced and the trailer has the typical lights that don't work and hubs that need replaced. Will be doing a jon boat to bass boat conversion since its so big. Going to be powered by an 80lb Minn Kota Riptide since Im only using this on very large private ponds.

i love what u did, im actually building my own trailer and repainting my 12 ft aluminum boat. just wondering for boat winch how long is the stand u have on your trailer and how is winch mounted as i would like to copy the simular layout you have!! i would like to make my own bunker rail for my boat. how would i prooced or how did u do yours. basical my 12ft is same as your 14ft. so would love if u can help with that.! also is rust oluem primer for aluminum good for primer before painting colour you want and how many coats. how many coat with colour choosen also , i was deciding on if i should do like aluminum metalic or smoky grey or light/flat grey. for both inside and out side of boat. will those colour be good when on water before puting clear coat. as was worry if i used lighter colour like aluminum metallic or grey will reflect!!! smoke grey looks nice too but would love your input.
