Great finds as always Alexander. I don´t know how you do it, but you always have such interesting finds. Here in Spain I´d expected a lot of Roman but I think in the UK you find far more of that time period. I just did some research and the population of the UK was in those times a lot denser than here in Spain, what might be an explanation. This weekend I had my first gold (half)coin, a 1590 ducat, so can´t really complain. Keep enjoying the hobby I know how addictive it is.

You can flatten that Penny by placing it between books. You can increase the force until you start to see flattening. When flattening stops, you can carefully add another book directly on top and so on. Is there any any structure on any of the land you detect that you could actually do excavation and see If you could find roman or some other homestead foundations?? I've always wanted to go on a dig, time team found the oldest known writing in the UK about 10 miles away from where I live on the isle of man that's why I'm keen to detect rich history over here.

Are you allowed to detect on the isle of Man Robbie?
@robbieallan652210 ай бұрын
Some places are national heritage so not allowed but alot of private land is OK aslong as ask permission first.

I’m no expert but based on my memory of Greco-Roman art class, that figure’s beard seems very similar

Never say never Alexander. With the volume of Roman stuff you find I believe it's only a matter of time. I mean you find Celtic ect. I still believe roman soldiers buried spoils meaning to return only to die in another battle. Cracking hunt and coins.

Looking at the Saxon coins in your book, they already had the voided short and long crosses. So could one say the whole theory of the later Kings using voided crosses to make it easier to cut and the long crosses to prevent people from clipping them is nonsense? They just copied the design of the earlier Saxon kings. The cutting on the cross did make it easier…
